NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - Top officials from the Bush administration, smarting from criticism their slow response compounded the suffering from Hurricane Katrina, were touring the devastation on Sunday as storm survivors finished evacuating New Orleans.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff planned to spend several days helping oversee relief efforts in New Orleans, where thousands are believed dead from floodwaters that breached protective levees after Katrina struck on Monday.

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld also planned to visit the city, while Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was touring the Mobile, Alabama, area, in her native state.

President George W. Bush, who in a rare admission of error, conceded on Friday that the results of his administration's relief efforts were unacceptable, said he would send 7,200 more active-duty troops over three days.

4. I think it's deliberately misleading...
Rumsfeld "planning" a visit, Condi in Mobile...

I just hope that the media keeps tacking on the "in response to criticism" line every time Bush or one of his goons "takes action."

Will they spin Condi's trip to the shoe store for Feragamos (spelling?) as part of her preperations for trip to Mobile? A lady needs some new pumps when she is going to town, after all. :eyes:

He's looking out for the military mission. And I don't think that it will be delivering food.

17.  Rumsfeld has no heart

' Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld toured a medical facility at New Orleans' international airport on Sunday. He spoke and shook hands with military and rescue officials but walked right by a dozen refugees lying on stretchers just feet away from him, most of them extremely sick or handicapped.'
