Zarqawi: US deserved Katrina
Dubai - The group headed by Iraq's most wanted man Abu Musab al-Zarqawi hailed in an Internet statement published Sunday what it said was the "start of the collapse" of the United States after the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

"Congratulations to the Islamic nation, to our sheikh Osama abu Abdullah (Osama bin Laden)? and to sheikh Ayman Zawahiri (bin Laden's deputy) for the destruction of America, which is at the forefront of evil. It is the start of its collapse."

The statement, whose authenticity could not be confirmed, was referring to the hurricane that has devastated New Orleans and left thousands feared dead.

12. It probably is Rove
But I'm pointing out that there are rightwing Christians, in our own country, who feel that New Orleans was a den of sin and degradation and have pretty much said what a terrorist is being reported to have said. That is pretty sad.

13. It's a wonder some people won't catch onto it!
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 11:28 AM by Judi Lynn
I thought he was still dead, as we were told by the administration nearer the beginning of Bush's war on the Iraqi people.

On edit:

Once again, as per usual, taken from the article:
The statement, whose authenticity could not be confirmed, was referring to the hurricane that has devastated New Orleans and left thousands feared dead.
(snip)
That's the way they almost ALL are judged after they are examined. Somehow it's never really possible to say for sure the tapes aren't simply bogus blobs of propaganda which can't be scrutinized without revealing they are complete fabrications, cranked out every time the administration needs a little boost, a little legitimization. It seems to work on the slow people, unfortunately.

Iraq's al Qaeda says Katrina is "wrath of God"-Web
Sun Sep 4, 2005 11:21 AM ET

DUBAI (Reuters) - The al Qaeda group in Iraq on Sunday hailed the hurricane deaths in "oppressor" America as the "wrath of God," according to an Internet statement.

"God attacked America and the prayers of the oppressed were answered," said the statement, which was posted on an Islamic Web site often used by the insurgent group fighting the U.S.-backed Iraqi government.

The statement's authenticity could not be verified.

"The wrath of the All-powerful fell upon the nation of oppressors. Their dead are in the thousands and their losses are in the billions," said the statement from the group led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who has a $25 million U.S. bounty on this head.

28. A few things to say:
1. Is Zarquawi alive, dead, here, there, everywhere? C'mon...we get really, really tired of the "unconfirmed" Zarquawi sightings. Either confirm it or we have to chalk it up to an "Elvis" sighting in the desert. A lot of people have died because this boogey-man has been seen here or there by unconfirmed sources. We kill singular men with large bombs, preferably.

2. What were prominent religious fundamentalists in this country saying when Iran was hit by the big earthquake last year? Just asking.

3. Does this mean that Pat Robertson and his fundmantalist ilk are now giving aid and comfort to our enemies by agreeing that the destruction of NO was a good thing? Just asking.

4. Do you think that this is the smart tack to take for the insurgents in Iraq? It would be far better to show how America's evil government kills the helpless. I am not one of those people that think that because Islamist terrorists are crazy, they are stupid. It is wrong to underestimate one's enemy.

5. Now this wouldn't be fortunate timing in the face of two massive political failures (Sheehan followed by the gulf coast) that are soon to be dovetailed with a large-scale anti-war protest in the near future, would it?

6. Sholdn't this be vetted before it is released to the public? Isn't withholding the movements and actions of the enemy a matter of national security? It sure is when it comes to "chatter" before 9/11. And why publish it? Should we pulish the ravings of every lunatic that bothers to type some drivel on the internet? Should Ted Kacynski start a syndicated column?

7. Why hasn't BushCo caught this bastard? After all, they shot him twice, blew his leg off, killed him once, stole his laptop, and bombed every bed and breakfast he ever stayed in. Does the incompetence in the gulf coast have anything to do with the incompetence of not catching this one guy who may pop up at an Baghdad internet cafe near you?

Boy, this piece of shit can be easily framed to hurt BushCo as much as help it.

I don't doubt religious fanatics would say this (I expect the same from fanatic Christians blaming gays eventually), but it could also be propaganda. "If you criticize the government's handling of the hurricane you are helping the terrorists", would be roughly the point of the propaganda.
