US Promises Sunnis to Free All Iraqi Detainees
US Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad has promised Sunni politicians disgruntled at a draft constitution slam-dunked by the Shiites and the Kurds to free all Iraqi detainees, a senior Sunni leader has revealed.

"He promised me last week that the detainees would be released," Adnan Al-Dulaimi, the ex-head the Sunni Waqfs, told IslamOnline.net.

"I hope he will keep his promise," he said, adding that he would personally follow up this pledge.

Sunni and anti-draft politicians, meanwhile, demanded Saturday, September 3, amendments to the text unveiled by the Shiites and Kurds after weeks of tortuous negotiations and several missed deadlines.

2. Could be a miscommunication
(drop out the 'the', and it was done) through a bad translation or poor language skills.

Could be what the Russians would call vran'ye: not exactly lying, but stretching the truth until it's not really recognizable.

Could be out-and-out lying.

Or it could be the ambassador was exaggerating, or lying.

But ex-head of the waqf is unlikely to be a non-partisan in the debate or an impartial broker.

A second witness would be good.

But for the people he's talking to, one pious Muslim's testimony against one non-pious-Muslim's testimony isn't a tie, it's 1-0.

Just goes to show you the lengths this admin will go for purely political reasons.
