Bush Administration Puts Katrina PR Campaign Into Overdrive

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Bush administration kept its Hurricane Katrina response and its public relations campaign in overdrive on Sunday, even as first confirmation came from Washington of a dreaded statistic - that the storm probably killed thousands of people.

....

"The world saw this tidal wave of disaster ascend upon the Gulf Coast," Bush said after spending about 45 minutes at the Red Cross and appealing for all Americans to donate money, time and blood to the relief effort. "Now they're going to see a tidal wave of compassion."

Besides Rice, Chertoff and Leavitt, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Richard Myers also traveled to the region Sunday.

....

However, Chertoff hinted at a future line of defense for the White House, mentioning that federal officials had problems getting information from local officials and were surprised, for instance, that they hadn't been told by Thursday of the violence and horrible conditions at the New Orleans convention center.

52. To quote the Chimp-inator himself
"The world saw this tidal wave of disaster ascend upon the Gulf Coast."

Ascend? The Gulf Coast has a tidal wave of disaster "ascend" upon them??? How did it ascend, pray tell?

I believe the word you want, schmuck boy, is "descend." If something ascends, it rises, or in the figurative context, it alleviates itself:

For example:
Literal: His soul will ascend into heaven.
Figurative: My cold has ascended into good health.

"The world saw this tidal wave of disaster descend upon the Gulf Coast." Now that's what chimpy means. But I'm sure he's disassembling more propoganda as we speak. Because he needs to get the pie higher and people need to put food on their families.

What a fucking dolt.

3. So...HIS excuse for not knowing about the ppl at the convention
center was that LOCAL officials didn't TELL him they were there?

I would THINK that local officials had QUITE ENOUGH to do and think and worry about without having to TELL FEMA where the victims were (ie: DO THEIR JOB FOR THEM, TOO).

Whatta load of CRAP!

25. No Excuse - Wasn't anybody in DC watching CNN or even Fox?
Maybe they were all watching comedies and reality shows on ABC, CBS, NBC who were just as clueless as the Bush Administration.

Bush should have had his ass in the oval office or situation room, in constant contact with Homeland Security, FEMA, Pentagon, etc., and had TV's monitoring CNN, Fox and NBC and been calling on someone to rectify situations even reporters were screaming to get resolved.

14. GET THE GOP OUT OF THE SOUTH NOW
pass this around as you see fit:

paraphrased from Randy Newman's song, Kingfish: Good Ole' Boys: 1974 re: Populist Governor Huey P. Long, 1928, who kicked the Federales out when they couldn't get their lard asses in gear and fix things subsequent to the Mississippi flooding NOLA)

NEVER FORGET NEW ORLEANS

There's a hundred-thousand BushMen in New Orelans
In New Orleans there are BushMen everywhere
But your house could fall down
Your baby could drown
Wouldn't none of those BushMen care.

Everybody gather round
Loosen up your suspenders
Hunker down on the ground
I'm a cracker
And you are too
But don't I take good care of you

(HERE WE'D NEED TO SUBSTITUE WHAT BLANCO/ MAYOR NOLA, LANDREAU ARE DOING)

Who built the highway to Baton Rouge?
Who put up the hospital and built you schools?
Who looks after shit-kickers like you?
The Kingfish do.

Who gave a party at the Roosevelt Hotel?
And invited the whole north half of the state down there for free.
The people in the city
Had their eyes bugging out
Cause everyone of you
Looked just like me

Kingfish, Kingfish
Everybody sing
Kingfish, Kingfish
EVERY MAN A KING

Who took on the Standard Oil men
And whipped their ass
Just like he promised he'd do?
Ain't no Stnadard Oil men gonna run this state
Gonna be run by little folks like me and you

Kingfish, Kingfish
Friend of the working man
Kingfish, Kingfish
The Kingfish gonna save this land.

24. Stop spinning and start packing.
Smart people didn't need Katrina to know that bush is a total failure. In 1999 we were cringing. His first debate speech in 1999 should have been his last. There is absolutely nothing legitimate about this administration at all. What else is there to say? We can comment on all of these stories. We can flog our Congress creatures to try and awaken them. But in the end, it looks like a lose-lose situation unless we do something that can't be mentioned without flagging those watching. How are we going to disinfect our country?

They are spinning their asses off and by this time next week, Bush will be the hero of New Orleans. Just like he's the hero of 9/11, despite peeing his pants for 7 minutes after we'd come under attack. Bushbots are more concerned with themselves, which means gas prices and what would happen to THEIR PROPERTY if they had to abandon it. People can be replaced, but that leafblower that converts to a vacuum cleaner, well that's one in a million!

33. Funds to pay bounty hunters.
I watched Chertoff lying from the airport in New Orleans, I could tell because his lips were moving. Rumsfield, Meyer, etc. also lied. They are murderers and should be tried in The Hague. Won't happen, of course. No way to vote them out. Demonstrations will not stop the thieves and murderers in Washington, and like has been discussed here, it is just going to get far worse as they continue to garner more power.

Maybe we the people, (of the entire world), should collect money and set up funds to pay bounty hunters to citizen-arrest these criminals anywhere they show up, and smuggle them to The Hague for trial. Arrest them on sight anywhere in the world.

We the people have no chance to remove the US administration by our rigged elections, they have the money and the fire-power. All the armies in the world together can't equal their guns. They rule the world, it is now simply impossible to remove them by usual means.

We could set up an international fund for each criminal that would pay on their handcuffed delivery in the Hague, for the rest of each criminals life. Each fund should be separate so that anyone can contribute to his criminal of choice. The worst will have the largest amounts on their heads. If a criminal dies before his fund pays out, (as Pol Pot's would have), then that fund would be proportioned into the other funds. What a democratic and fair method of law enforcement and justice.

I suggest that if they were not certain beyond any doubt that they have a method to hold power indefinitely, they would never have passed laws such as the criminally named Patriot Act, and obviously planning to remove the filibuster, and thus any opposition counter balance.

Some here have argued that Americans have traditions that will keep our democracy alive. The citizens would never allow the executive to flaunt and ignore our laws. That troops would never fire on citizens. All rat dreams. The traditions that are necessary are those followed by those in power, not the citizens. The citizens are out-gunned. Kent State proved that the Guard will fire on our students, and those of us listening to the scanners in the last 48 hours, have heard the victims in New Orleans inadvertently referred to as "insurgents!" And for the tradition as a free people; the people of Bavaria had a tradition as free men dating back before their days fighting Caesar, but their democracy installed Hitler, and supported him until they could not remove him. Remember, the NAZIs only held power for about 13 years, and * has been in power for five now. Another five and we well may be gassing gays, blacks and Muslims.

Rove and company have shown that they are not constrained by fairness, tradition, or morality.

59. I think the rest of the world 'gets it'
The rest of the world have seen through Bush since he stole the Presidency in 2000. It would seem half of the US population are still following Bush? Why? Would someone please knock on these people's doors and explain that he is an &$$h@l@

57. I nominate Dennis (Rescue Me's "Tommy Gavin") Leary for FEMA Director
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 09:18 PM by Coastie for Truth
Secretary Chertoff, FEMA "Probie" Brown, and FEMA "Probie" Rhode should resign in disgrace. (I am giving "Probie" Brown and "Probie" Rhode too much credit. They are not fit to be "Probies" in a real department.

They are even an insult to firefighters on TV like Tommie Gavin (Dennis Leary) and Chief Riley (Jerry McGee).

63. It isn't "the bush administration." It's "The Excuse Administration."
Doesn't matter what it is, they always have an excuse. It might take them a couple days to get their story together, but there it is, the big lame excuse, just like always. Never to be held accountable, because they've always got an excuse.

Such a charmed life you live, george Worthless bush.

64. 100% right
911
He says he didn't know and couldn't know or he would have prevented it, but his administration was warned and this wasn't the first time the world trade center was attacked.
Iraq
He pushes for war with Iraq with evidence he knew wasn't accurate and blames the CIA and foreign intelligence agencies. The insurgency after the war is huge and he blames Clinton's military leaders.
Katrina
He cuts off a day from his record breaking vacation to do a fly over on the site and his media goons are already testing out a few initial blame the state governments and the victims.

More and more excuses from our laziest and most ignorant president. He doesn't understand poor or sacrifice or hard work or suffering. He's a big spoiled child that can't take any responsibility for the obligations of his office or the mistakes he's made. He does what we wants or what he's told without regard for the impact on normal people.

Chertoff ?? Everyone in the world who had a TV saw what was going on at the convention center. And I'm surely not the only person who went to whitehouse.gov and posted there about it. They had their heads up their asses and there is no getting out of this jam
