Bush resists immediate probe into Katrina response

WASHINGTON, Sept 6 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush, facing demands for an investigation into what went wrong in the initial response to Hurricane Katrina, resisted any immediate probe on Tuesday into what has become the worst U.S. humanitarian crisis ever.

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and other Democrats have demanded formation of a commission similar to the one that investigated the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, to determine how federal, state and local authorities bungled the relief effort in the first days after the hurricane struck.

Much of the anger, some of it also from leading Republicans, has been directed at Bush for a slow federal response to a catastrophe that may have killed thousands in New Orleans and along the northern Gulf of Mexico coast.

Bush, after a Cabinet meeting devoted to the myriad challenges posed in the wake of the crisis, said he wanted to save lives and solve problems before assessing blame.

sounds familiar?

Bush can't be trusted to investigate a dictionary is anyone going to take an investigation done by him seriously?

to 1) destroy the evidence (no autopsies; secure FEMA control);
2) to play political hardball in order to stack the commission.

5. Where have we heard this before?
Ahh, yes: "The 9/11 Commission." No doubt he'll appoint a "bi-partisan" commission to "look into this." He himself will be happy to give testamony...provided it is done behind closed doors, with no oath administered, and Cheney there to hold his hand.

10. NPR said Bush was going to lead the investigation...that is some-
thing he is possibly capable of since all he has to do is look in the mirror when he shaves.

13. "Stop. Wait. No. Don't." Sound familiar? Hmm, the "leader" of 9/11...
said the same thing about that.
And, hey, it worked out fine for him in the end.
So, why mess with success?

Wait and see. Watch and learn.
Don't worry about that man behind the curtain.
I am the Great and Powerful Oz.

BullsheeeeeeeIt.

You know what? I DON'T GIVE A RATS ASS WHAT * WANTS.
LET'S INVESTIGATE NOW!

Why do "we/they" keep doing it his way... when nothing is working???"

14. He learned his lesson after the 9/11 investigation...
Him* leading it, in his mind, means it's serious. In anyone else's mind, it's covering his ass. This, just like all the other "investigations" will be strongly influenced by the repukes.

He won't investigate shit, he now has a room full of nitwits creating the report to be released just before the mid-term elections that absolve him of any delay or wrong doing and placing all the blame on either the Gov of LA. or the Mayor of N.O. or both.

colossal failure*.

16. Shredding papers, making up false timelines and reports,...
...erasing recorded phone conversations...this all takes time. You can't expect Bush to have that done overnight!

19. Bush needs to SHUT up
and let the real leaders emerge. This disater is the opportunity to change things for the better across this nation. to reach out to the world and thank them. to start afresh in diplomacy and action and change. His bromides are tired , dead, and useless.
How dreadful that it takes the deaths of thousands to start this dialogue.
