Funeral Director Deploys to Hurricane Region (up to 40,000 bodies!)

"DMort is telling us to expect up to 40,000 bodies," Dan Buckner said, quoting officials with the Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team, a volunteer arm of Homeland Security.

His partner, Dan Hicks, of Paducah, Ky., was deployed Monday. Buckner, of Dickson, is on standby. Their funeral home is one of several collection sites for donations to be taken to the Red Cross in Fayetteville on Wednesday for transfer to places in need.

The 40,000 estimate does "not include the number of disinterred remains that have been displaced from ... mausoleums," Buckner told the Times-Gazette Monday.

<...>

"My personal opinion is they will be recovering bodies for 30 ... to 120 days," Buckner said.

1. Kick! 40,000 dead...is that just in NO, or everywhere Katrina struck?
Horrible...Bush and his inept administration must be held accountable.

2. just wait until those that survived start to die
from the pandemic that is about to hit. The survivors have been moved to various locations throughout the USA. They should have all been rescued at once and placed in shelters and quarantined for at least a month or longer.

Hell to pay ... more of it ... 40,000 is the tip of the iceberg in my opinion!

:kick:

4. The MSM always exaggerate these things I will be surprised
if the death toll passes 1000. They were saying maybe 50,000 would be dead on 911.

5. Not if it would reflect poorly on George Bush. They wildly, deliberately
understated the LARGE numbers of people protesting all over the country, the war against Iraq LONG BEFORE he could organize his military enough to invade and devastate.

We knew it was coming, knew why it was coming, and tried to protest, to tell the world it was wrong. Very public expressions all over the world, and from one coast to the other here had people desperately trying to signal Washington not to commit this unpardonable sin.

The media barely acknowledged the very people pouring by them in the streets, and casually noted token turn-outs.

6. That 9/11 number went down dramatically as info came in
But I am afraid it is only going to rise here, just like after the tsunami. I don't think the government will allow us to knoe the truth of it this time, though, because they have screwed up so badly.

8. 1000? Are you serious?
I've seen pictures of a fair amount already and that was only what was published from NO. Can't compare what was originally feared the first hours of 9/11 to what they will find over the next several months in the gulf coast states.

9. CNN was showing film of those huge semi's full of
corpses being taken to a big warehouse in St. Gabriel,La. today. The warehouse has been converted to a giant operation to try and run identity tests on the victims. Also said there were Pathologists there from all over the country. They interview one.She said it was doubtful if they are able to identify many of them . They are also doing autopsies on them.

10. Katrina - 40,000 Feared Dead
Recovery of Bodies Could Take Up To Four Months; 40,000 Feared Dead

By D.L. McCracken
Sep 6, 2005, 16:25

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is warning volunteer members of the Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team to expect to recover up to 40,000 bodies as teams of morticians, medical examiners, coroners, pathologists ready themselves for departure to New Orleans.

The 40,000 estimate does not include bodies that had been interred in the city's above-ground mausoleums but had been displaced by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding.

The National Association of Funeral Directors and Embalmers will be establishing a temporary morgue where forensics experts of not only morticians and coroners but also anthropologists, dental assistants, odontologists, photographers, and specialists can begin the grim task of identifying human remains through DNA, x-ray and fingerprinting.

Experts anticipate the body recovery process could take up to four months because of the magnitude of the search and the total destruction of such a large area.
