Gallup: Americans to Bush -- Withdraw Troops from Iraq
NEW YORK Two separate Gallup polls, detailed today in the organization's weekly report, show that Americans favor withdrawing some or all U.S. troops from Iraq.

Perhaps most revealing was a new poll which asked 1,007 Americans, "If you could talk with President Bush for 15 minutes about the situation in Iraq, what would you, personally, advise him to do?" The poll taken in late August found that 41% said they would tell him to pull troops out of Iraq and end our involvement there.

Far behind in second place (18%) was to finish what we started or be more aggressive. Another 7% advised coming up with an exit strategy.

A separate Gallup poll found that 53% of Americans favor a reduction of U.S. troops in Iraq. This includes 26% who prefer withdrawing all troops.

are those who favor a more aggressive strategy. i think i noticed that in the VN war era too.

6. Kerry, Clinton, Biden, Bayh, Lieberman are with the 18%-way to go guys
Your "positioning" is going over very well. And your silence on John Roberts is working so well too. Very smart.

12. Kerry is not for a more aggressive stance and he was
among the first to talk about Roberts. Kerry is not far from Kennedy of Feingold - Kennedy said in January on MTP that a withdrawal date should be set. On MTP, Kerry described his plan detailing steps needed to resolve things and get out. Both Kennedy and Kerry took great pains to say that their positions were very close - differing on whether you publicize a date. Feingold says to set a date - he suggested Dec, 2006, but said we should not leave until certain political steps were finished. His plan would seem to be between Kennedy and Kerry's.

All three want:
- To get out
- To not leave chaos and a haven for terrorism
- Have no long term goal of bases or empire

In Biden's speech yesterday, although he blasted Bush on the situation in Iraq, he spoke positively of Bush's goals (from his innaugeral address) to "reform" the governments in other countries.

9. It's not as if the Busheviks need the votes ofthe people anymore
Just enough votes to make the rest of the rigging and stealing confusing enough so that people will throw up their hands.

For 2008, I place that number at no more than 35% of the actual vote.

10. Katrina allows Bush to be demagogic on Iraq.
The shrub can simply (as if any other way were possible) say that he cannot continue the mission in Iraq as our land has been devastated and the troops are needed to help rebuild america.

Perfect pullout ploy.

A separate Gallup poll found that 53% of Americans favor a reduction of U.S. troops in Iraq. This includes 26% who prefer withdrawing all troops. In the same survey, only 40% of Americans approve, while 59% disapprove of the way Bush is handling Iraq. Fifty-three percent of Americans think going to war in Iraq was a mistake, similar to the 54% who said this in early August.
