Rice wants North Korea's human rights abuses highlighted
Rice wants North Korea's human rights abuses highlighted

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice insisted human rights abuses in North Korea should be highlighted, ignoring the risk of angering the Stalinist regime which has delayed talks designed to end its nuclear weapons drive. Rice said a newly named US human rights envoy for North Korea would raise the profile of the human rights situation in the reclusive state and help look into ways of cooperating with other countries to deal with the problem.

She spoke to reporters before receiving the envoy, Jay Lefkowitz, at her office following his nomination by US President George W. Bush last month.

Lefkowitz "will have an opportunity to raise the profile of these issues and to see what we can do with the rest of the world to improve the humanitarian situation for the people of North Korea and the human rights conditions there," Rice said.

President Bush wanted "people all over the world to (have the) right to live in dignity, to have human rights respected, to have brighter futures," she said. "We believe the people of North Korea to be no different."

20. Mississippi is MS, Michigan is MI
We're pretty comfortable up here in Michigan. We may have one of the poorest cities in the nation, and the highest unemployment rate, but we are taking in a few thousand evacuees.

Although, to quote Clancy Wiggums "We have a saying around here-let Michigan handle it".
That's not as funny as you might think. We take in everybody, from Laotian refugees evacuated by the Christian Reformed Church to runaway kids from Chicago whose parents don't want them back and whom the state of IL won't take back. But that's okay, we are good people who do the right thing.

9. Just imagine what she'd be saying if some country had penned
tens of thousands of people into a couple of places with no food, no water, no sanitation, and wouldn't let them leave for days, even though some were dying from dehydration. I mean, that would defintely be a violation of human rights, wouldn't it?

14. Apparently unafraid
of being blasted by a bolt of lightening from Heaven, and being dragged by her master, Lucifer, into hell where she belongs, she made the following statement...

"President Bush wanted "people all over the world to (have the) right to live in dignity, to have human rights respected, to have brighter futures," she said."

The most notable exceptions are the poor, especially the black poor, caught in the hell of New Orleans, shot as looters for daring to take food or water from stores, locked into a festering, filthy Superdome without food, water, medicine, or sewer facilities; left to die in attics filled with toxic water; and...all the while...turning away countless numbers of humanitarian workers, denied entry into the city.

North Korea, as brutal as their regime is, did not run Abu Ghraib, or Gitmo, and is not responsible for "rendering" suspected terrorists to other countries to be tortured. Nor did the leader of North Korea order hundreds of thousands of our men and women into a war of choice in Iraq, causing loss of life and horrific injuries on both sides.

For an administration which has proceeded to strip away our own freedoms, while arrogantly stomping an already suffering Iraq even further into poverty and desperation, it takes something akin to a complete psychotic break to be able to make such pronouncements. Ask the people of our Gulf Coast, who are still finding bodies abandoned by the Bush administration and it's complete contempt for human life.

26. Ferragamo Condi suffers from an eye ailment - she can see abuses
on the other side of the world, but not up close.

Cheney - you ms-calculated with ms rice.

There isn't anyone with common sense and a sense of patriotism who can respect or believe her.

She is a more evil female than the females who reigned in power from the time of Empress Theodoro through the Madames of WW2 and the Cold War.

Did she make herself into this or did she allow herself to be made into this?

Condaleeza ... who tried her best to destroy the U.S., but was discovered and stopped by the citizens.

33. Ain't that just your typical example of the pot calling the kettle...
well, you know the rest. So Rice want's to concentrate on human rights abuses elsewhere to take attention away from her man, Bush, not to mention her own part in his horrid administration. She needs to look in the mirror...Look who's talking. I'm with Whoopi Goldberg on Rice. She's gotta be screwing Bush to stick her neck out that much for him.
