(Updates with U.S. statement)

BAGHDAD, Sept 7 (Reuters) - A U.S. contractor kidnapped in Iraq in
November has been freed by U.S. troops, a spokesman for the U.S.
military said on Wednesday.

"I can confirm that," the spokesman said, when asked about reports
that a contractor had been freed. He named him as Roy Allison Hallums
but gave no further details.

The U.S. military later issued a statement saying U.S.-led coalition
forces had rescued Hallums and an Iraqi citizen from an isolated
farmhouse 15 miles (24 km) south of Baghdad at 11.20 a.m. (0720 GMT)
on Wednesday, adding that he was in good condition.

"Hallums had been held since being kidnapped at gunpoint from the
offices of his employer in the Monsour district of Baghdad on
November 1, 2004," the statement said.

US civil contractor freed in Iraq

A US contractor, who was seized in Iraq last year, has been freed by US-led forces, the US military has said.

It said Roy Hallums and an Iraqi national were rescued from an isolated farmhouse south of Baghdad.

"Mr Hallums is in a good condition and is receiving medical care," a US military statement said.

Mr Hallums, 57, worked for a Saudi food contracting company when he was seized in an armed assault in the Mansour district of Baghdad on 1 November.
