Witt makes presence known in La.

It didn’t take long for James Lee Witt, the former head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to throw his weight around in hurricane-ravaged Louisiana.

Witt, who headed FEMA during the Clinton administration, has been hired by Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco (D) to help coordinate state and federal responses to the natural disaster.

Blanco introduced Witt to President Bush on Monday, according to a source who has spoken with Witt. Bush promised Witt whatever support he needed and said that Mike Brown, FEMA’s embattled director, is his man in charge.
Andrew Card, Bush’s chief of staff, called Witt to give him his home phone number and reiterate Bush’s support.

According to the source, Witt told Brown, “Mike, you’re going to do your job, and I’m going to make you do your job. And I’m going to show you how to do your job.”

Bush is only hiring those people that make him look competent. There's only so many white male Republicans that are, unlike the majority of freepers, somewhat presentable in public who can do that. It's a limited job pool.

Bush is trying to recurit as many "friends" as he can. He may be able to cadge a few good words out of Mr. Witt, but he'll still have to answer to the American people.

I'd say he is going to be NOLA's knight in shining armor. He isn't doing this for Bush.

Witt and Blanco are doing this for the people of NOLA. Thank GOD she didn't give up control to Bush. If she had, she couldn't have brought Witt in to fix everything.

21. Why are his political contributions relevant?

Who cares that he contributed to Congressional Democrats? It is completely irrelevant to the issues surrounding Katrina relief efforts, and the administration's inability to have any corrdinated relief effort. It's like the author is trying to cast Witt's criticisms as partisan.
