Congressman reports more than 100 died in a warehouse, waiting for rescue
Posted: 09/07/2005 15:05:14

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Even as crews in New Orleans try to find and count the corpses that are decaying in the 90-degree heat, reports of the extent of the tragedy are starting to emerge.

A Louisiana congressman says more than 100 people died at a warehouse along a New Orleans dock. Congressman Charlie Melancon (muh-LAWN'-suhn) says they died as they waited for rescuers to take them to safety. . . .

(there is only 1 more paragraph, about bodies found in a nursing home)

1. please tell me he's a republican...the congressman, that is.
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 05:57 PM by Don Claybrook
That's what it's come to. The GOP machine will smear any statement by anyone who isn't a republican. And if it is a republican, he'll go into a meeting with some Pentagon suit or mid-level White House staffer, and he'll come out saying that all of the fault lies at the local and state level.

4. Well, sorry to do it, but it looks as if he's a Democrat.
Just add him to the list of people and their information due to get slandered, slurred, ridiculed, and targeted for a hate-storm.

Doesn't matter, it's HIS state, by God.

9. He's my congressman, and I'm damn proud of it!
This man is a saint compared to the man he replaced- Billy Tauzin.
Charlie won by only 500 votes over the republican candidate - Billy Tauzin's son, Little Billy. Since this tragedy began, Charlie has been out there, every day, with the local people in their boats recovering survivors, and unfortunately recovering those that didn't make it. There STILL are no FEMA or Red Cross people in our district. The recovery and clean-up here is being done by the citizens in each battered and destroyed town, and Charlie has been there with us each and every day. I can't say it enough, Charlie is a saint.

3. 30 died in beds at a flooded-out nursing home (rescue never materialized)
And a state lawmaker says 30 people died at a flooded-out nursing home just outside New Orleans. Nita Hutter says the staff had left the residents behind in their beds. A rescue that was supposed to take place never materialized.

11. Unbelievable. The press should ask Bush how much time he has
spent on his knees, praying to God, begging for forgiveness.

They haven't asked that question yet.

15. (gasp) --you mean they didn't all die of sexual depravity and cannibalism?
You mean to tell us that there were actually a few people in New Orleans who died as a direct result of sickness, dehydration, and the flood itself?

:sarcasm:
