Landrieu: Federal Government Failed To Protect American Lives

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Mary Landrieu took to the Senate floor today to accuse the federal government of failing in its "greatest responsibility" -- protecting the lives of Americans after Hurricane Katrina left New Orleans flooded.

Landrieu, who lost her family home in the storm, was surrounded by Senate Democrats as she spoke for 30 minutes in the hushed chamber about her experiences over the past two week. Only one Republican, Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi, was on the floor.

Landrieu joined her Republican colleague, Sen. David Vitter, in calling for a bipartisan response to the disaster.

But she led Senate Democrats today in proposing a broader aid package than the one Bush proposed.

7. Far from it. The right is pounding the local failure meme.
We are actually starting to lose this battle in the court of public opinion. The Repugs have thrown so much disinformation into the mix, that people are starting to deny what they just a week ago saw with their own eyes. These are Orwellian times.

13. I don't think so. Brown is toast.
Bush will soon be finding other things to do as well, such as focusing on the family values he preaches so much about, for a change.

3. She actually showed what an idiot Bush was with that one. She was
upset and Bush said he understood how hard it was to lose her family home. She said (during her speech)"I wasn't upset because I lost my home. I knew when I walked out of my home to evacuate that my home was gone. That wasn't why I was upset."

I thought it just showed what an idiot Bush is - people were dying and he thought she was upset about her house. He is so friggin clueless and heartless.

9. Once again the difference between us and them is apparent
They only care about property, we care more about people.

10. There it is.
As my father always said, the GOP is chock full of people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

4. WTF-- one of the senators from LA addressed the senate...
...about her experiences during the relief effort, AND ONLY ONE REPUBLICAN SENATOR ATTENDED?! This is why this country is headed for either a civil war or a MASSIVE political crisis. Partisanship has gotten completely out of control, especially republican partisanship. This is utterly shameful. Are they actively boycotting the senator from LA, or were they all, as a monolithic body, simply not interested in what the senator from the state most affected by the biggest disaster in recent U.S. history had to say about it? Un-fucking-believable.

5. Maybe it's guilt?
never mind I forgot...heartless bastards...Trent Lott was on the floor the other day talking about how the money was pouring in from around the world, with a big grin on his face, acting like a kid at Christmas so eager to get his hands on his present.

8. A disaster is what it is.
The GOP only wants to be around when they can steal credit and shine under the sun.

11. Wait a minute...this is the same Mary Landrieu...
...who, the day after the hurricane, blamed the people in the Superdome for their own plight, saying that they "decided not to heed the warning" to evacuate?

:wtf:
