Bush outlines aid; Declares day of prayer

...

The administration also is cutting red tape to enable displaced families to receive federal benefits administered by the states -- even if they fled across state lines. These include Medicaid, food stamps, jobless compensation and child care.

Bush spoke 10 days after the hurricane devastated the Gulf Coast and swamped the city of New Orleans.

...

Bush also declared Sept. 16 a national day of prayer and remembrance for Katrina's victims.

pray for him. He's used to having people speak up on his behalf.

28. God hates George Bush
Jesus told me so last time we got together over beer. When a camera pans George in 'pray face', he's actually practicing Streets of LA in him mind, zooming around, hopping sidewalks to run people down, especially blacks. This is how George trains himself to keep a straight face - "run people down, express compassion". Whenever George gives two thoughts about praying, God slaps him to keep from hearing whatever stupid thing he has to say. Sometimes, God trips him off his bicycle as a chastizement, but it only makes George meaner. God tried to choke him with a pretzel once, but George has been even nastier ever since.

34. Yep, just like those fundamentalists I read about a few weeks ago....
who are facing criminal charges because their branch of some religion does not believe in medicine. The parents tried to "pray" their babies well and, lo and behold, the babies died.

Is the thinking that maybe if we pray hard enough, food will fall from the sky (along with houses, money, water, dead -but now alive- relatives, and A NEW PRESIDENT?

....since that whole commemorative "looking utterly clueless while staring out the plane window on 9.11" photo didn't bring in as much money as they had hoped during the 2004 campaign.

I will be praying, that all those who have perished in the death and destruction he has caused did not die in vain and for deliverance from his evil.

"Dear God,

please remove these murderers and thugs from power. They have been responsible for many, MANY deaths."

"I have faith that Goodness will prevail. These men are pure evil on earth. Please create a spiritual Tsunami that will sweep these corrupt people out of the White House".

On Sep. 16, I will be praying extra hard.

26. I'm praying that the truth will come out
All of the truth. The White House and FEMA's non-action on the Gulf Coast re: Katrina. The Downing Street Memo. The persons who revealed Valerie Plame's responsibilities at the CIA. The elections of 2000 and 2004. The questions we still have about September 11th.

In the meantime, I pray for those suffering in this tragedy; I pray for mercy. I pray for those so desperately trying to help.

Julie

As for "remembrance for Katrina's victims" -- I'm praying that the victims of Katrina, the ones who survived, will now survive being victimized by * and the same evil minions.

36. I'll remember and pray for the victims on 9/16 but...
I'll also be saying my own prayers for what I want. A new president, jail for the people in power, that sort of thing that it pains me to think about in terms of prayer. Good God, the Republicans have muddied the idea of prayer for me. This is disgusting.

By the way, I have an honest question...why wait until 9/16 for the national day of prayer? Why not something sooner? Too close to 9/11?

Anyway, this is the prayer I will honestly be most thinking of. I found it in a book about Eleanor Roosevelt and her work on the UN Council on Human Rights. It was her nightly prayer, according to the book.

"Our Father, who has set a restlessness in our hearts and made us all seekers after that which we can never fully find, forbid us to be satisfied with what we can make of life. Draw us from the base content and set our eyes on far-off goals. Keep us at task too hard for us that we may be driven to Thee for strength. Deliver us from fretfulness and self-pitying; make us sure of the good we cannot see and of the hidden good in the world. Open our eyes to simple beauty all around us and our hearts to the loveliness men hide from us because we do not try to understand them. Save us from ourselves and show us a vision of a world made new."[/i}

49. Dear God: Please help us cleanse the the People's House...
... of the toxic flood of corruption that has befouled it to the rooflines. Help us, we beseech Thee with all our hearts, to rebuild our government as it was meant to be -- a servant of the people and not the people's master.

And much more in the same vein. I've mentioned before that Bush has driven me to pray about politics, something I always thought was a bit like praying your football team would win. Under the circumstances, I've changed my practice.

If nations have "souls" then our nation's soul is in deadly peril. It is we who must do the work, but some divine help would be most welcome.

Hekate
