Katrina may cost as much as four years of war
WASHINGTON - One storm could end up costing almost as much as two wars.

Although estimates of Hurricane Katrina's staggering toll on the treasury are highly imprecise, costs are certain to climb to $200 billion in the coming weeks. The final accounting could approach the more than $300 billion spent in four years to fight in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Analysts inside and outside government agree that the $62 billion that Washington has spent so far was merely the first installment of perhaps an unparalleled sum.

In 1992, the devastation of Hurricane Andrew in Florida and Louisiana cost $35 billion. The price for the 6.7-magnitude temblor in the Northridge area of Los Angeles in 1994 was $15 billion to $20 billion. Members of the Louisiana congressional delegation say it could cost $100 billion just in New Orleans.

2. in a parallel universe
where the real winner of the 2000 election were President, there would be funds to take care of this crisis, because the budget would have stayed balanced, 9/11 would probably not have happened, and we definately would not of gone to war with Iraq. Pres. Gore would have done what he did-been down there pronto with a planeload of relief supplies.

3. A President of the United States...

...should keep in mind that catastrophic disasters can happen.

Instead, this pResident--is siphoning money out of our country to fund his sick, illegal, sure-to-fail, lie-based adventure in the desert.

He's run up the Federal deficit to unprecedented levels.

Junior left us all vulnerable with these reckless policies.

The man says he's on top of the war on terror. What a joke. Now what happens, if we have another terrorist attack, another hurricane or some unforeseen disaster?

That's what we get with a man who used his daddy's connections to: Get him into Ivy league schools; land him jobs at which he failed and avoid military service the military.

The Discombobulator-in-Chief is showing us nothing new. He's royally fucked up everything he's ever touched. Now, he's just doing it on a grander scale.

God. Help. Us. All.

8. They waged a war on the people of New Orleans by cutting funding
needed for flood control each of Bush's five years in the White House, making the subsequent flooding far, far worse than it would have ever been otherwise.

They have waged a war on Democrats by pretending the wild destruction which ensued was simply Blanco's and Nagin's faults. Hopefully thinking Americans will see through this.

11. Goodgawdalmighty! So what business does the Army Corp of Engineers
have mucking around in things like this? Maybe freepers should tell them, so they won't be doing big projects the states want to do.

Freeps are just dangerous, aren't they? It shows that we've got one of their kind squatting in the White House.

9. AP: Katrina May Cost U.S. as Much as Two Wars
My first reaction is "Aw, bummer." Then I realized the headline only meant that the cost of Katrina would be the equivalent of what we would pay for two wars. So it's not like we have to give up actually having two of "our" planned wars in the near future.

Whew.
