Ban On Same-Sex Marriage Could Fail In Mass.

An effort to block gay marriage in Massachusetts appears to be faltering.

An Associated Press poll found that at least 104 state lawmakers plan to vote against a proposed constitutional amendment. It needs the votes of at least 101 of the state's 200 lawmakers to get on the 2006 ballot.

The measure is scheduled for a vote Wednesday.

One Democratic lawmaker said it would be "a dangerous precedent to take away rights" granted by the courts.

2. Unfortunately, not all of the lawmakers are voting against

the amendment for the same reason. We have quite a few who want to ban civil unions which the amendment would legalize. And we have those who support same sex marriage who would vote against the amendment. Since most of our lawmakers are Democrats, it makes for interesting political viewing.
