Blackwater buys more local land. (Virginia)

Blackwater USA has bought more land and is constructing what will be Camden County’s largest building, while plans to move the company’s aviation arm to neighboring Currituck County may be in jeopardy.

Last month, Blackwater USA bought a little more than 351 acres in Camden County and 60 acres in Currituck County as part of the same tract, according to a deed in Camden County offices.

The security and weapons training company is also constructing a 66,569-square-foot, two-story building with nearly 300 rooms, according to blueprints. Blackwater’s real estate is owned by a subsidiary called E&J Holdings LLC.

In 1997, Currituck County officials and local residents were worried about the effects of a large target range not far from Moyock, the county’s most populated community. The county had turned down Blackwater’s request to amend a county ordinance that forbids outdoor shooting ranges. In May last year, Currituck amended its ordinances to allow for Blackwater’s operations.

3. Fits in with my longheld belief: The fascists want a PRIVATIZED military
and that is why they are decimating the military we have.

A privatized military would force the taxpayers to pay for their "going rate" or whatever the "market will bear" and be loyal only to those corporations who sign their checks.

Cheney started privatizing aspects of the military back in 1991...the logistics of the USS Cole were being handled by KBR (Halliburton) when it was bombed.

4. And a PRIVATIZED police force, a PRIVATIZED education system,...
and a PRIVATIZED urban water and sewer system, and a PRIVATIZED park and wildlife system, etc etc etc.

There is NO ROOM ANYWHERE in these peoples minds for the concept of "commons".

17. Yep, because private=tyrannical
Monarchies are private governments.
Dictatorships are private governments.
Corporations are private governments.

But blind Americans march on, crying out against 'big government' screaming for an end to their pseudo-democracy completely ignoring the giant tyrannical bureaucracy that already controls so much of our society.

People who call themselves libertarians will drive a dagger into the heart of the republic so that the plutarchs can take the overt control over the US that they believe they need to guarantee that their children will rule the future.

Which I would almost prefer as a future to a continuation of the current sham known as America where people pretend to be living under a constitutional, democratic regime happily conforming to the demands of the government we dare not call government.

20. They dont care. Mainstream America is so ignorant at this point
that the privitization of the military doesnt seem to bother them.

Nevermind that private militaries are the foundation upon which traditional authoritarianism is built.

Who needs economic authoritarianism when we can just return to the days when private governments had a monopoly on force. Makes things a damn lot simpler.

16. NO Camden or Currituck Counties in Virginia -
- the paper is a VA paper but I think it is referring to NC, which has both a Camden and Currituck County.

The article is not clear but I can tell you that it is not Virginia.

22. Blackwater is in North Carolina
Camden, Currituck, and Pasquotank are counties in North Carolina. They're in the extreme north-eastern tip of the state, right below the Virgina border.

This is a very isolated rural area surrounded by swamps, with little infrastructure or local economy.

It's scary to think of what paramilitary organizations are getting up to in this part of the state. I don't like it at all.

We have a friend who's working for them now, he only has to work 9 months a year, but still gets 12 months pay.

It really is sick, these are not family men either :(

26. Does this mean they won't be taking over New Orleans after all?
If they were, why would they need to build somewhere else?

Guess Halliburton beat them out :sarcasm:
