Bush, Seeking to Regain Trust, Plans Katrina Recovery `Czar'
President George W. Bush, seeking to restore public confidence in his ability to handle a crisis, may appoint a high-profile ``czar'' to oversee the Gulf Coast recovery.

Bush, who yesterday named R. David Paulison, 57, head of the U.S. Fire Administration, as acting director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency to replace Michael Brown, is now looking for someone with a telegenic presence as well as proven management and leadership skills to take on the reconstruction- czar job, said an administration aide who asked not to be identified.

The president also plans to make a major speech to address Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath, according to White House Counselor Dan Bartlett.

7. Chris Matthews has been pushing Rudy for a week now
It's to the point I can't even stand to watch it for 10 seconds!

He's pushed, and pushed, and pushed, and pushed, and then pushed some more.

I seriously think Matthews is trying out for Press Secretary or something.

27. I wouldn't be pushing Rudy so fast.
It came out recently that Rudy MISREPRESENTED TO THE 9/11 COMMISSION why so many fire fighters stayed in the buildings, and lost their lives as a result. Rudy indicated they were serving above and beyond the call, trying to help civilians.

Now that a successful Freedom of Information Act lawsuit/request elicited tapes, post-op interviews and the like, it appears the reason the firefighters stayed was THAT THEY WERE USING INADEQUATE RADIO EQUIPMENT, presumably issued by the Guiliani administration, and the firefighters were clueless as to their circumstances.

Throw on top of that that Rudy pretty blatantly started traveling around with his new girlfriend, putting the end to his marriage with the mother of his child, before 9/11.

Oh, one more thing. I don't think Rudy can be credited with saving too many lives at ground zero, IF ANY.

3. David Paulison is the Duct tape man.
He advised the American people in 2002 to go out and by duct tape and plastic sheething to sheild homes against bio, chemical nuke attack!!! I guess they didn't vet this guy to well.

5. NOW is the time for Hillary/Howard/Wes to step forward
and volunteer for this stewardship.

This will show the country their leadership, their capabilities, their commitment to country.

And if * turns her down, it's the perfect campaign hit, as he'll end up hiring the son-in-law of the neighbor of the guy who cuts his lawn for his "recover czar" ( :eyes: ).

Anyway, Hillary, Howard, Wes, if any of you want to show your leadership and be willing to cross partisan lines, then step up to the front.

Otherwise, who are you actually fighting for?

Can't these cheney-heads ever do anything without having some slippery ulterior motive? Can you imagine someone from the Gulf Coast refusing competent help because the man in charge looked like a troll doll?

16. Ah .... this is good!
That's not how Rovian tactics work, usually, IMHO.

The fact that Jr. is making ANY attempts to regain confidence or trust points a big finger at the reason he would have to do that in the first place.

Bush is in quicksand with this one and the more he does to try and fix it, the more desperate he will appear to be and the more attention his huge blunder recently, and the mess he has made, in general. He can only dig himself a deeper hole and that is cause for some hope now. Either way, he drowns in his own politcal excrement.

25. Paul Bremer? Given his recent success as viceroy in Iraq,
I think he deserves a promotion to "czar".

Given the recent increases to oil revenues available in the Gulf Coast, why the "recovery and rebuilding" should pay for themselves. Paul Bremer might even have access to some of the billions that went unaccounted for in Iraq. There are plenty of private security personnel in region for his protection. Should another storm threaten the region he could restore sovereignty and make a hasty exit.

Do I have to say "sarcasm"?

28. He could lose all the money Bush is saving by not paying prevailing wage.
His suspension of Davis-Bacon really irritates me. I hope I never see Paul Bremer in public service again.
