Three students were taken to area hospitals with injuries from the altercation.

A fight broke out between Louisiana evacuees and Houston students at a southeast Houston high school Tuesday morning.

The scene got even uglier when parents arrived.

A loud verbal confrontation broke out between mothers of some of the students involved in the first fight.

1. So much for accepting newcomers.
... The first fight started around 9 a.m. when a bus rolled up carrying Katrina evacuees enrolled at the school.

According to police, someone threw a can at one of the evacuees and that set off a fight involving several students...

6. Seems like their anger is directed at the wrong people
Michael Lewis says, from his perspective, the students are just mirroring the frustration of many adults.

"You have ladies that have been trying to get on welfare and food stamps, trying to get government assistance, housing. And then evacuees coming here and getting it instantly," said Lewis. "The whole city is a melting pot."

9. Damn Evacuees. They're so lucky. They get to go to the front of the
welfare line. Too bad those Houston ladies didn't lose their homes, their kids, their husbands, their jobs, their clothes, their minds... they could have gotten assistance much faster.

/sarcasm

7. OUCH! It's starting already!
This is just the beginning. I hope all evacuees will receive some counseling during this extremely tense moment. If not, many more people could get hurt.

I'd hate to see how things will be many months later when the news move onward and the money stops coming in. It's going to get ugly.

8. Houston may have been a poor choice, proximity aside.
And the school official (principal?) said the NOLA kids were "guests". Oh, joy.... guests. Hooboy. Someone needs to get in there. Right now. RIGHT NOW.

10. I love the guest comment. Are they guests in the country of Texas?
They aren't guests, the are temporary displaced, through no fault of there own, US citizens trying to get their life back, sheesh! As far a the welfare comment. I bet many of them were working citizens before their places of employment turned into sewers.

11. Not what it meant
The Houston women had tried to get assistance and couldn't, but the New Orleans people got it right away. Or so the story goes.

assistance and they didn't. Most people can get emergency assistance, people who can't get assistance don't qualify. Every state has it's own rules, I think. They shouldn't be mad at the evacuees because they lost everything but the clothes on their backs. They should be mad at their government state or federal.

Edited to add, they can't blame their god *, now can they. He's not a guest he's one of their own. lol

14. I'm not sure what is more disturbing....
The fact that this took place, or the fact that the news organization named the video clip catfight.
