Bush to U.N.: Spread democracy, fight terror

UNITED NATIONS-- Before skeptical and silent world leaders, President Bush on Wednesday urged compassion for the needy and pressed the global community to "put the terrorists on notice" by cracking down on any activities that could incite deadly attacks,

Bush, addressing more than 160 presidents, prime ministers and kings gathered for three days of U.N. General Assembly meetings, was seeking to sell his blueprints for spreading democracy in Iraq and elsewhere, overhauling the United Nations and expanding trade.

"The terrorists must know that wherever they go they cannot escape justice," Bush said to world leaders who sat silently throughout his speech.

....

"We must send a clear message to the rulers of outlaw regimes that sponsor terror and pursue weapons of mass murder: You will not be allowed to threaten the peace and stability of the world," Bush said. "Confronting our enemies is essential, and so civilized nations will continue to take the fight to the terrorists."

24. Actually, I think world leaders (UN) are being far too

passive and I'm as dissappointed in the lack of official government opposition on the part of other nations as I am in our dems.

"As we fight, the terrorists must know that the world stands united against them," Bush said. Those gathered before him-- including many who harbor lingering bitterness about the U.S.-led war in Iraq-- sat silently throughout the 25-minute speech, reflecting tradition.

They need to do MORE than sit silently. They need to stand up to him and say what we all KNOW they are thinking: HE is the greatest threat to world security, to the environment, to the poor, to EVERYONE and EVERYTHING on the planet.

BUSH REGIME has got to go.

And, since we obviously no longer have a functioning democracy in this country, we NEED international solidarity and support in removing this rogue regime, returning all the resources they have robbed to the US treasury and, in the best case scenarario, putting them in JAIL.

I'd be satisfied to let them get out of criminal prosecution if we could just get them OUT and get our money back so we could begin rebuilding our democracy, but...god, we need HELP here to get rid of him.

Where is the goddamned UN when you need em?

Spineless, spineless cowards... just like our dems.

How can it possibly be that this pathetic piece of shit has the whole damn world cowering in his drunken, coked-up shadow!?!

What is it?

end of rant

29. Well, I do agree with you, hardrain
We need the world to stand up against this regime and help us see justice truly done. However, I cannot imagine this body becoming an angry mob. Their silence speaks volumes. They have other measures to put ** in his place, and I imagine we are going to see more and more of those measures taken "in trade," so to speak.

Sorry I was so late in reply--work intervenes with my DU time.

48. Silence speaks volumes--but only for people who actually have EARS
*** isn't "subtle" enough to NOTICE when someone's dissing him with silence. And I don't think getting up and walking out on someone is an "angry mob" action.

*** is AUTISTIC. He can barely read. He couldn't pass a 3rd grade grammar test if his life depended on it.

This relates to world leaders as well as to our Dems: just because WE think something MUST be obvious, it isn't obvious to these people armor-plated and furthermore essentially EMPTY skulls.

They have to be run over with a gd Humvee before they "get it."

(think about the damn DVD they had to make for **!)

44. They Aren't Passive, At ALL!
They just don't seek the headlines and spin the media. Other nations are calmly and methodically eating our lunch and getting ready to start on the rest of the mealticket. And frankly, America deserves it. Perhaps not you or I personally, nor our future generations, but an awful lot of monied folks are getting their due and no tax cut is going to save them.

10. Bush Seeks U.N. Support For Spreading Democracy, Expanding Free Trade

Bush Seeks U.N. Support For Spreading Democracy, Expanding Free Trade

NEW YORK (AP) Before skeptical world leaders, President Bush is seeking to sell the global community on his blueprint for spreading democracy in Iraq and elsewhere, overhauling the United Nations and expanding free trade.

There is broad opposition to the U.S.-led war in Iraq among the more than 160 presidents, prime ministers and kings gathered for three days of U.N. General Assembly meetings. Many leaders also would rather hear Bush finally relent and support an international treaty on global warming or promise to donate foreign aid at a level more proportionate to other rich nations.

But in his annual speech to the U.N. gathering Wednesday, Bush was hoping to impress upon his audience the urgency of addressing the world's problems as he sees them.

``This is a time of great challenge for America and the world,'' White House press secretary Scott McClellan said. ``We must work together in common purpose to advance freedom, ease suffering, and lay the foundations of lasting peace for our children and grandchildren.''

Bush thanks international community for hurricane response

UNITED NATIONS President Bush is thanking the scores of nations around the world that have offered or provided help to people along the Gulf Coast recovering from Hurricane Katrina.

Speaking to the U-N General Assembly, Bush said the region is recovering from one of the worst natural disasters in the nation's history. He said a "great American city" is trying to turn the floodwaters and reclaim its future.

But he said that just as Americans have seen the "awesome power of nature," they've also witnessed the "greater power of human compassion." He said that as Americans responded to the needs of the hurricane victims, so did the rest of the world. And he offered his thanks.

UN: Search For AIDS Vaccine At Risk Due To Lack Of Interest, Funding

by The Canadian Press

Posted: September 9, 2005 12:01 am ET

(Montreal, Quebec) The pursuit of a vaccination against AIDS is dying due to lack of funds and global commitment, according to the Canadian who is the United Nations point man on the fight against the deadly disease in Africa.

In a speech to scientific researchers who are chasing a vaccine for AIDS, Stephen Lewis said the quest for a vaccine received $640 million US in funding in 2004, about half of the amount that should be dedicated to the research.

The UN Secretary General's special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa pointed to recent high-level meetings on AIDS prevention where scant mention was made of the search for a vaccine.

"Your pursuit is in jeopardy," Lewis told researchers at the AIDS Vaccine International Conference. "Your collective voices must be heard on the funding dimensions of a vaccine. It can't be left solely to activists. You're the influential professionals. You should give no quarter. The world depends on it."

30. Spread and fight, spread and fight! Heil BUSH!
Can't escape justice! When bush says "justice" it sounds like a dirty word.

We're spreadin' ___________, and we're fightin' __________. Just fill in the blanks. Oh Condi, would you hold my football for me. And if you need to drop the bomb, it's the blue button on the bottom left. But you better not push it unless it's reeeeally important. Hehe. Smirk. Smirk.

I'm so tired of it all. When is it going to end. I think of the grave damage just the Patriot act has done to justice in this country. And that's just the tip. The coup is complete.

Goodnight. Another day ends. God bless.
