Displaced Students Stabbed in Boston
Displaced Students Stabbed in Boston

BOSTON -- Two Loyola University students attending classes at Boston College after their school was shut down by Hurricane Katrina were stabbed on a Boston street early Wednesday morning.

Joseph Vairo, 19, was in serious condition at a hospital after being stabbed twice, Boston College spokesman Jack Dunn said. An unidentified 20-year-old was treated and released.

The students -- among 150 from Loyola and Tulane University who are temporarily attending Boston College -- got into an argument with five men at 1:30 a.m. outside a store, said Officer Mike McCarthy, a Boston police spokesman.

They walked away, but were attacked moments later, McCarthy and Dunn said. McCarthy said there have been no arrests, and that witnesses were being interviewed.

"It's clear that they were the victims here," Dunn said.

1. Good Old Boston
Home of the bean and the cod, but never considered the hospitality capital of anything (not even Massachusetts). How well I remember the isolation I felt, transferring into 9th grade--this is the town that produced Mary Louise Hicks of bussing blockade fame. True meaning of the word "exclusive".

2. So it's not just me?
Every time I've been there I have encountered some pretty hostile people.

Same shit happened at a H.S. in Houston. Even the moms got into it. It's a NATIONAL SICKNESS.

8. Not hardly *everyone*, but every time I went there I met a few.
It's just a regional thing, I guess. Like a behavioral dialect.

3. Louise Day Hicks....what a miserable bitch
I have to say I toasted her passing. Not especially proud of that, but I did, and I was GLAD she was dead.

There are nice people in Boston, and there are assholes, too.

6. Boston - exclusive/elite - Perhaps not apropos,
but I have often wondered about the origin of this little ditty about Boston. Does everyone feel entitled, or just the "veddy, veddy rich?"

Here's to the City of Boston,
The home of the bean and the cod,
Where the Lowells speak only to Cabots,
And the Cabots speak only to God.
