Bush's popularity continues downward spiral: polls
WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush's approval rating continued its downward spiral in two polls out, reaching new lows on his performance in the war on terror and Iraq, and on handling the Hurricane Katrina aftermath.

A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released Thursday showed Bush's overall ratings sank to 40, a record low.

Forty-nine percent of those polled believe the US economy will worsen over the next year. And 55 percent support bringing US troops home from Iraq, while just 36 percent support Bush's policy of keeping the troops in place until peace can be guaranteed.

Nearly 60 percent of those polled said they were unhappy with the Bush administration's response to Hurricane Katrina.

1. I am so freakin' amazed
that there are still how many millions who supposedly think he's doing a good job, did enough for Katrina, we have a good growing economy, Sadam attacked us & has WMDs, etc etc etc....

I read letters to the editor with people still spouting this same old shit. They are either in a deep form of denial, too proud to admit they were dead wrong, or just cannot comprehend what's going on -- yesterday's headline in our paper in huge bold letters across the top said "BUSH ACCEPTS BLAME" and then in a local letter to the editor, a guy said 'I don't know why people are trying to blame Bush blah blah blah' -- I got a kick out of that, hope he felt like an ass when he read the headline of the paper his letter was published in - lol

4. I think they realise Bush is blowing it but.......
they are so brainwashed into hating "libruls" that Bush can do literally anything to them and its "Better than what the 'libruls' would do". You can always tell the brainwashed ones because their every statement is peppered with "libruls" this and "Libruls" that.

6. Yep...I know someone who even told me he didn't care how many
facts I sent him, he still believes Bush is blameless.

And he also tells me that because I went to college, I'm brainwashed.

20. Sometimes it's like being in "Groundhog Day" talking with him
During one of our conversations it seems like I'll make some real progress with him after I refute what he's saying and point out the larger picture that rightwing and mainstream media do not report. I mean, he really thinks about what I tell him.

Then I swear the next time we talk (often the next day) it's as if we never had the previous conversation. He's back to making the exact same lame points that I've already refuted and he has no clue about any perspective beyond the narrow view of Hannity and Limbaugh and MSM reporters.

I know other conservatives like that. I don't think they're playing around with me either. I think they really don't remember most of the time what we said earlier, like they've blotted from their mind.

It's creepy more than it is frustrating...Orwell's memory hole in the flesh.

22. One of my best friends is just as you described...
...and every day it just comes back around to "baby killers" but he's really lighthearted about it. Kind of disturbing.

16. If you have an indisputable fact, you're lying; if you went to college,
you're dumb.

This is the world turned upside down that they've created.

14. I'm amazed also. I just hope if, God forbid, I'm ever charged with
a crime that not one of these people are on my jury, since they obviously wouldn't believe any evidence that supported my innocence. People can not be this stupid; it's just that they HAVE to be right.

3. Yep... just more lies. Lies, lies, lies, lies.....
they lie about EVERYTHING, and we are "amazed" he is doing this well in the polls? As if it's true? They are LIES. I know he has his base, but there is no way, it's that large. This administration is as crooked as it gets. These polls are manipulated, and I'll never believe differently. Never.

7. Many Americans would claim support for Charlie Manson in the Oval Office
It isn't the man they are supporting; it's the position and title. They can't find it in their rigid perspective to "betray" their (mis)leader because to them it's the same as not supporting their country.

I wish there were qualifiers such as, "I support him and this is the reason why." I'm sure bush would get some surprises.

All in all, for a WSJ/NBC poll, this is pretty low, heading into quicksand territory.

12. Yes, don't you hate the way they make it sound so reasonable?
They mention that these low poll rankings compare with the lowest of the Clinton and Reagan eras, but don't mention how Clinton, for example, was in the high 60s at the HEIGHT of the impeachment insanity. This was a man under seige by the media and the Republicans (same thing, I know), and he polled more than 50 percent higher than Bush, who has been aided and abetted and propped up by the Republicans and the media since he arrived on the scene.

13. well well well
I wish I could post some excerpts of a letter I just received in the mail from a person in Texas that is a diehard Republican that I have been in contact with for the past couple of months re: another issue completely unrelated to politics.

Boy is this person PISSED to say the very LEAST and so is this person's spouse.

I'd say it is buh bye bushy!

And to think, it took busting the economy of the USA and killing thousands of people in the south to expose this EVIL demonic man said to be the President of the United States.

IMPEACH NOW! SAVE AMERICA!
