Rice predicts political backlash against Iraq insurgency
NEW YORK (AFP) - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that the rising civilian death toll in Iraq was causing internal problems for insurgent groups and alienating their support base.

"They are now in a situation in which they're killing an awful lot of civilians and they are killing Muslims," Rice said in a discussion with the NBC editorial board.

"There's some evidence that there's some tension in the jihadist movement about whether that's the right thing to do," she said, referring to foreign Islamist militants who have joined forces in the insurgency with loyalists of ousted Iraq leader Saddam Hussein.

"And certainly in a number of parts of the country, they have made themselves incredibly unpopular," Rice said. "There are cases where tribesmen have literally run them out of town."

9. Operation Northwoods- Iraqi version.
How many of the civillian deaths are actually being caused by the insurgency?

If there's one thing Poppy knows- it's manipulation of the public psyche.

16. So in less than three years, we've been reduced to this
The greatest war machine the world has ever seen is dependent on the political backlash in Iraq to help it against the "insurgents." Why do we spend a billion dollars a day on armaments when it's public opinion in Iraq that will determine our success or failure on the battlefield?

Thank you, Madame Secretary of Stinkeye, bathroom monitor.

Not permitted to disseminate the truth if it would be perceived as remotely harmful to President Hall Pass.

I am sure there is some classified intelligence to support Condi's assertions that we will never see. Not.

22. An alternative to wishful thinking
The natives on the ground are better at assessing the situation. AlQaeda can both fan the flames and be a buffer scapegoat for this sort of "rejection." The Sunnis take less blame but the war grows. Everyone cheers an American death to some extent or else blames the Americans for every atrocity.

Therefore AlQaeda gets what it wants. The Sunni insurgents benefit. The Shiites in any event get what they want and that will include getting rid of the useless Americans.

Sell them your old shoes, Condi, to high step over the rubble of your sales pitch.

25. I heard a news report the other day where the reporter
said the government claimed they've had more volunteers than ever to fight the "insurgents" and public opinion seemed to be turning against the rebellion. Gee, never heard that one before. :eyes:
