Castro welcomes Chinese delegation
http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradenton/news/local/12675095.htm
Castro received the delegation, led by Zhang Xiao Giang of China's national development and reform commission, in Havana's Palace of the Revolution Friday night in a "cordial and friendly meeting," the Communist Party daily Granma said.

They discussed economic and social development in both countries as well as strengthened commercial ties created in November, when Hu agreed to invest in the island's key nickel industry and increase Chinese involvement in Cuban tourism and telecommunications.

China accounts for some 10 percent of the island's foreign trade.

Meanwhile.. the US :freak: continues to stiff-arm Cuba.

1. What if China pulled in our debt and joined with Cuba. Cuba and

China owning us is an intriguing thought.

With all thanks to the Bush Carlyle Group, PNAC, corporate ceo's and their stockholders, the military, and all the other secret and not-so-secret rulers who steal from us, take care of themselves, and dictate our policies.

2. Sort of the same thing occurred to me. What if
as leverage in negotiations for North Korea's nuclear power, somehow enhancing the standing and control by the Chinese, the Chinese used our debt as leverage against us;

or

the Chinese and North Koreans began the Taiwanese takeover, using our debt and our (unnecessarily) over-extended military situation for leverage to their advantage;

or

the Chinese used our debt as leverage to continue weakening our economy through "free trade."

Bush has weakened the US through our national debt, beginning with the surplus he inherited to the now well over two TRILLION dollars!

3. Amazing, isn't it?
The government of Cuba has been seeking normalization of relations with the US for 45+ years. Cuba isn't the enemy of the American people, the BushCrimeFamily is.

4. The only information most people have is bogus. They could learn
the truth by going to Cuba. Since the government forbids that, they could start reading Cuban history, and start looking for people to talk to who HAVE been to Cuba, if they aren't right-wingers with an agenda.

At some point, many intelligent people start realizing they've been lied to about this small country, and become driven to learn all they can about why that is!

5. I volunteer
to help inform people about Cuba. I have been there, go there still, have family and friends there in many branches of society. I left the USA because I could no longer stomach any support/tax dollars going to destroy a truly amazing social development. It helps to consider that what we Cubans have yearned for over the last 300 years is the right of self-determination. Like it or not, Fidel represents a very real effort and success in this direction. Any criticism that the forces of evil offer is null and void when viewed against the backdrop of 300 years of ruthless exploitation of the most beautiful island in the world. Cubans are a proud people and we must be allowed to determine our own course. The BFEE and the other criminals in the US government should realize they will never break our will and we will fight to the last to save Cuba and The Revolution. And Hugo Chavez is absolutely correct in his analysis of what the US is up to internationally. Cuba is proud to have him as an ally and friend. (Gusanos need not apply.)

7. Welcome home Ben......and I concur with every word you wrote
and a volume could be added as to how Hugo Chavez and others in the world could help the poor and the U.S. to see the light. The light that everyone isn't a commie or a terrorist. That everyone in the world should work together and forget old heat scores and worn out doctrines that preach hatred in the name of religion.

8. So glad to read your post here. I was wondering if you weren't Cuban,
as in REAL Cuban because of your screen name.

There are quite a few DU'ers who've been to Cuba, some of them multiple times. You're the first one here who has come from there as a conscious, serious human being. (We have been joined by gusanos from time to time.)

Your comments are most assuredly welcome here. There are many of us who are just starting to learn about Cuba in the last few years, after the Miami gusanos held Elián Gonzalez hostage in Miami. A lot of Americans started waking up around that time and starting to try to find out what had been hidden from us. We need to know the truth behind the propaganda, and we struggle to discover it.
Welcome to D.U., Ben Ceremos! :hi: :hi: :hi:

12. Thank you Ben C.
Thank you for confirming what I (and others) have been posting here on DU about Cuba and Cubans in Cuba for several years.

Viva Cuba!

Plus I just saw some video of some Cuban TS Rita evacuations on cable channel NBC Weather Plus (out of Miami). Video showed people boarding up store windows, mass transit picking up people and taking them to stocked shelters, transfers of elderly to alternate care centers - fully equipped. Everything seemed orderly and well planned with concerned people smiling and helping one another.

Another voice / Hurricane Katrina
Cuba provides lessons in disaster planning
By HENRY LOUIS TAYLOR JR.

9/19/2005

The devastation of Hurricane Katrina has made Americans aware of the importance of disaster planning and management. The storm revealed the inadequacy of strategies to effectively communicate with and evacuate low-income residents during a catastrophe. Americans would be well advised to study systems of disaster preparedness in countries such as Cuba that have developed successful models to mobilize low-income groups.

I was in Havana doing fieldwork for a book when Hurricane Dennis roared across the island in July. Although it weakened to a Category 2 before striking Havana, it nevertheless gave me the opportunity to witness Cuba's approach to disaster preparedness. Effective communication, cooperation and efficient evacuation were the most impressive things I observed. Early on the morning of July 8, to reassure residents, Fidel Castro and a team of experts appeared on television and broadcast throughout the day to discuss the storm and the preparations taking place to safeguard the Cuban people.

The government, however, could not simply rely on television and radio. To communicate with the many people who do not have televisions, radios or telephones, they utilized a "word of mouth" method of communication. The success of this approach was made possible by Cuba's elaborate system of neighborhood-based organizations that are trained to mobilize people, help evacuate them and to pass on information at the street level.

I found the system capable of accurately delivering information in a timely and efficient manner. Everyone seemed to know where to go, where to get materials and supplies, what time the hurricane would hit and even when the electricity would be disconnected (it is cut off to avoid any injuries from electrocution).

Castro says Cuba still ready to assist U.S.
20 Sep 2005 00:21:48 GMT

Source: Reuters

HAVANA, Sept 19 (Reuters) - Cuban President Fidel Castro reiterated on Monday his offer to send doctors to the U.S. Gulf Coast as Tropical Storm Rita threatened Florida and possibly the area recently wrecked by Hurricane Katrina.

"We are still ready today and tomorrow with our offer," Castro said of the 1,100 doctors and 36 tonnes of medical supplies he offered to send to the United States 19 days ago in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, which has been blamed for nearly 1,000 deaths along the Gulf Coast.

Castro, in a speech to graduating medical students broadcast live by official media, said the Bush administration had not responded to his offer. He insisted it was sincere and not meant to "humiliate or offend" his bitter political foe.

The Cuban president announced doctors organized to help Katrina victims would be joined by other professionals and students in a permanent medical force to provide relief when natural disasters and epidemics strike anywhere in the world.
