Marine Veteran Files To Run For Edwards’ Congressional Seat

Marine Corps veteran Van Taylor, 33, of West, has filed paperwork to run as a Republican candidate in 2006 in the race for the District 17 Congressional Seat held by Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco.

Taylor is one of at least three Republicans reportedly interested in the job. Former Capitol Hill assistant and attorney Tucker Anderson and Purple Heart winner Bentley Nettles have also been mentioned as likely candidates next year.

Taylor, who served in Iraq, led a reconnaissance platoon and served as an intelligence officer. He joined the Marine Corps reserves while earning an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Edwards won an eighth term last year in the 17th District, which was drawn to favor a Republican candidate during the contentious redistricting effort in the Texas House of Representatives.

6. Not me ... The Officer Corps has the best and the worst
people when we speak of compassion and humanitarian spirit.

I served as an Intelligence Officer. Several of the soldiers within the Platoon swore that I must have been "prior service" (came in first as enlisted) because I was not ARROGANT and all knowing.

Basically, I tried to build a team with the NCOs of our Watch. Although I'd sometimes come and oversee their activities, I was not into ever little natty decision they had to make.

On the contrary, a number of the other Lieutenants were arrogant about being part of the Officer Corps. Sort of like they were the upper class to the peon troops. Oh boy did they get screwed in the long run.

People born into privilege seemingly never learn that you don't disrespect the people who work for you. They WILL f**k you over before you know it. But then again, people of privilege rarely if ever "take the blame."

I don't personally know the background of the combat veteran. However, if he's a republican, you can bet the farm that he's one ARROGANT and POSTURING SOB. Bank on it! Right wingers love unbridled power and pompous posturing. :puke:

Arrogance (excessive pride in oneself) has nothing to do with being a veteran. Sadly, it's a life long character flaw often (not always!) seen in the koolaid drinking Right Wing. :(

5. Should we express our graitude to Mr. Anderson for his service...
and send him a token of our esteem in the form of a bandaid with a purple heart drawn on it? Would seem perfectly appropriate to me.

7. It would be good to see him lose this election, since he's part
of the MEpublican attempt to capitalize on their theft of formerly Democratic areas through that contemptible Delay MEpublican gerrymandering last year.
