1. I hate to agree with anything herr * had to say
But I agree with this--they need to at least find out where Rita is headed before they let a ton of people back in. JMO

4. HELL NO!
I am not even a happy camper during severe thunderstorms...

I would last about three hours in a hurricane and then I would have a heart attack and die (or die of alcohol poisoning because you had better believe I would be drinking enough for ten people under such circumstances)

6. Shouldn't have allowed it in the first place.
He's desperate to make NO still look like a legit version of itself - see reopnening the French Quarter - but it's simply not realistic at this point.

9. U.S. asks Nagin to halt return
http://www.washtimes.com/national/20050919-123345-7924r.htm

By Audrey Hudson
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
September 19, 2005

Federal officials today will ask New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin to cease urging residents to return to New Orleans because of unsafe health conditions, unstable levees and no 911 system to evacuate the area again during the ongoing hurricane season.
On Saturday, Mr. Nagin began allowing business owners back into the city to assess property damage and today wants to begin moving 180,000 residents back into their flooded homes.
Coast Guard Vice Adm. Thad W. Allen, who is leading the federal operation, will advise against repopulating the city when he meets with Mr. Nagin.
"I have spoke in the last 24 hours with the head of the EPA and the director for the Center for Disease Control, and our collective counsel is for him to slow down and take this at a more moderate pace," Adm. Allen told "Fox News Sunday."

11. He did? I had not heard. Been out all day and didn't get the news.
So he caved to the Federal pressure?

13. Feds didn't pressure him about Hurricane Rita
that I'm aware of. Looks like it's being spun a different way, though.
He also said that, before Rita, he was waiting for EPA information on air quality and such before actually encouraging people to return.

I saw him making the announcement on CNN.

12. So this is just a land grab!
And Bush's EPA gave false advice to New Yorkers after the 9/11 propaganda coup too, so who gives a flying F_ck what they have to say under his command now!

14. I'm worried about what the impact of Rita would be
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 11:14 AM by SemperEadem
on those displaced by Katrina staying in Houston/SATX for the time being...

I'm sure the Texans aren't going to appreciate folks not even from their state being in the way at shelters, etc... I hope that animosity doesn't break out and people get injured or worse.
