Demonstration by disabled sparks arrests in Capitol
CAPITOL HILL At least 30 people have been arrested on Capitol Hill during a protest by several hundred disabled people.

Many of the demonstrators were in wheelchairs ...

The protesters are upset over proposals to slow the growth of Medicaid spending by ten (b) billion dollars over the next five years. All are members of a group called ADAPT ...

1. Can you imagine how it feels to arrest such a protester? If only those in
this administration could feel shame when when their actions were shameful!

ADAPT organizer Babs Johnson said the protests were staged at the personal offices of House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Joe Barton, R-Texas, and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.

She said they were demanding that Congress abandon plans to slow the growth of Medicaid spending by $10 billion over the next five years. They also are demanding that Congress pass legislation making it easier for the disabled to live in their communities rather than in nursing homes.

7. Thank ya
My heroes, ADAPT has been doing protests for more than 20 years. Prior to the ADA the acronym ADAPT stood for Americans Disabled for Acccessible Public Transportation, now Americans Disabled For Attendant Programs Today. Don't ever pity them for being arrested - they have every right as American citizens to practice civil disobedience and face its proper consequences, just donate bail money www.adapt.org and learn from them how to do it right. They know how to call the media before being arrested. Lots of practice.

Here's background on ADAPT
