Don't interfere in south Iraq: Rumsfeld to Iran

Washington: US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld warned Iran not to stretch its influence beyond tolerance in southern Iraq where there is a sizeable Shi'ite population.

The warning followed a day of tension in Basra, the southern city in Iraq, which witnessed a clash between the British and Iraqi forces.

Replying to a question on whether the increased tension in Basra was due to Iranian activity in the area, Rumsfeld said: "Iran has been busy in southern Iraq for years and years."

"They've sent pilgrims back and forth across that border into those Shi'ite holy sites on a regular basis,” he said. “The borders are porous. Is it greater today than yesterday? I don't know, but you can be sure that the playing field is not even there. They're interested, they're involved and they're active. And it's not helpful. You know, you can overplay your hand."

2. This isn't America!

It's more like a cheap immitation.

Saber rattling, threatening, warring.

What would George Washington think?

This is not the gold standard of democracy the world used to look up to.

4. Propaganda response to British bombers in Basra report
Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 04:49 AM by teryang
Yesterday it was widely reported that there was direct evidence that British troops in Basra were covertly engaged in "P2" type covert provocateur bombing operations to encourage civil war there.

This is the cause of recent instability and unrest in Basra not Iran.

That von Rumsfeldt is the author of this misleading threat only lends credence to stories because he is the major proponent of P2 terror operations.
