College Republicans to host ‘Conservative Coming Out Day’

Statesman staff report
September 21, 2005

Indiana State students are encouraged by the College Republicans to publicly declare their conservative beliefs at the first National Conservative Coming Out Day today.

Jonathan Moore, president of the ISU College Republicans, said the event, which takes place from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. today on the first floor of HMSU, is for students who are closet conservatives, to publicly show their political beliefs by reading a testimonial.

"This is a great opportunity for conservatives to show our presence on campus," Moore said. "Conservative students should be proud of their beliefs."

Moore said information about conservative ideology would also be available at the table. He said free T-shirts and College Republican membership forms would also be available to students.

This propitious timing brings ‘Conservative Coming Out Day’ to nearly coincide with "National Talk-Like-a-Pirate Day." Off by a day or so. Is it possible the two days could be combined?

1. Is there a required labotamy to join a college Repugs group?
I have never met a college Republican with brain matter or witnessed any activity they've sponsored that wasn't completely stupid or offensive. THey are such bottom-feeders.

52. Being somewhat conservative I might come out..........
Here's what I'd say........

Bush and these repugs are NOT conservative.... they're just moronic Republicans that hate America. I'm not for any party.

I am for America.

Here is why:

I am for a strong military....

When Bush was first elected China stole one of our military planes and took a half dozen of our guys hostage. Bush apologized, and paid china $1,000,000 to get our guys and plane back

August 6, 2001 PDB... Bin Laden to attack memo ignored by Bush. Had he JUST called the airlines to alert them....9/11 attack might have been averted.

9/11 attack occurs and Bush just sits for 20 minutes reading a book to school kids.

Bush promises the Bin Laden will hear from us, days after 9/11. Now 4 years later Bin Laden is still out there.

Bush attacked Iraq for no good reason and has lied numerous times as to why. Now, rather having the strongest, most feared military on earth, we look like crap which will only encourage new enemies to attack us.

I am a fiscal conservative who wanted a balanced budget. Bush took the surpluses we had under Clinton and now has the biggest deficits in history. Even bigger than Reagan's. Republicans TALKED about balanced budgets and under Reagan the elected Bush and now this Bush, we have the biggest deficits in history. And right between those republicans.... Clinton had the biggest surpluses ever. Don't just TALK... do it. Repugs can't do it.

I am for business to do well. Under Bush the S$P is down 8% after 4 1/2 years. Thats the 1st stock losses turned in by a pres since Herb Hoover (R). Under Clinton, we had the largest stock increases in history. Something like 17% gain per year. Stock buyers have voted. Bush isn't being bought.

Like me to to go one.......?

of conservatives. And they are mostly my age or older.

But college aged conservatives CREEP ME OUT. It just ain't natural! Passion! Energy! Idealism!

These are not conservative traits.

54. Sure they are? Remember the Nazis?
The Busheviks are using identical tactics, differing only in severity, a lack of OVERT racism, but oh so much more sophisticated and designed to defeat a people with a much deeper tradition of freedom (that must be broken down) than the Germans of 1930.

19. Absolutely! Army recruiters should come out to this event !
However, they would not get any recruits from these cowardly slime. They say they have to stay here, safe in the USA, to fight the "culture war." If they saw an Army recruiter, they would run away !

The Army missed its recruiting quota by 10,000 recruits. I guess the freepers really don't want to give war a chance.

43. Conservatives in military
One of the reasons I left the Army is that it was filled with so many damned unthinking uber-conservative, gung-ho racists thugs that it was hard to find someone intelligent to talk to.

No wonder reallly, Rush on the radio was practically official shut-down time. No news but Stars and Stripes and Fox.

Of course, the rank-and-file were primarily rednecks, not the sons of the privilege like you see on TV beating the drum for war. Just sheepeople who blindly follow.

Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 02:14 PM by trogdor
They're worse. Lots worse.

If I were there, I'd say something like this:

...so I became a conservative because conservatives really care about those who are less fortunate or less free than we are. Not only that, we back this up with action. For example, I have just been to the registrar's office, where I informed the people there that I will not be returning next semester because I had just enlisted in the Army. The War on Terror needs dedicated people like the College Republicans to step up to the plate and put our money where our mouths are, so I will be shipping off to Fort Benning, Georgia, the month after next. College can wait; the terrorists won't, so I ask you, who's with me? (chirp, chirp)

56. Did I talk to the officers?
No choice but!

Of course, being an E-7 it was mainly: Go do this, go do that. Jump? Yessir, How high?

It's a good way to pay for college, however, and straightened this formerly-going-to-be-in-trouble black boy out --- better than prison, which is where I was headed if I kept it up.

Didn't get shot in Iraq (was in the Kurdish area, actually very pleasant people, when they are not shooting at Turks).

I pay zippo when everything is combined with my academic scholarships.

Pretty much 99% of the Army rank-and-file buys everything the Rupukes say, lock, stock, and barrel.

I left the RA in 1997. The Reserves wasn't nearly as bad in my experience. Now I'm retired, thank God.

I met a lot of supposedly educated  commissioned officers who were totally wacked-out on Republican Jesus to the point of insanity. So much for the much-vaunted West Point educational experience. Those officers who received their commissions through ROTC or OCS weren't nearly as bad as those who went to the Point. Enlisted folks weren't quite that bad either, but quite a few of them went along to get along.

The enlisted Army is affliced with a quite different brand of "conservatism," mainly the NASCAR/NWE variety. Both components got progressively stupider over the last ten or so years.

77. That's not my expeience.
I was an officer for ten years and an em for three years and I knew quite a few liberals among them. A high ranking person you see on tv quite a bit is a big time liberal from Mass.

I've recently been called back up and have talked to some officers and NCOs since I got my orders. Just about every one of them was clearly not happy with the national leadership.

Anybody that comes on here and claims the military is 100% republican is either just wrong or a troll.

I completely agree... my daughter is headed for the thick of it as a medic, hating the war, but intending on doing her job to save lives. The college conservatives who support the war in Iraq should waive the "coming out party", and change it to an enlistment party, and join the fight.

6. Not sure whether to laugh or cry. maybe both.
They control three branches of government, especially in indiana. Their religious bigots are ramming through educational changes which further their fundie-conservative platform.

and these guys feel like they need serious group support just to state their own positions?

Well, it must be embarrassment or recognition that the conservative politicies have wrought damage and worse. That is why they have to hang in groups, rather than stand up proudly on their own two feet, even if one of their feet was in use as dental floss.

Back in the old days, it meant fiscal responsibility and limited government (including keeping it out of people's bedrooms).

If bunch of people like that spoke out publicly, it wouldn't be so bad...

Instead, we're likely to get a bunch of war-mongering, (selective) bible-thumping, hypocritical and corrupt wackaloons.

Conservative "coming out" day? As if they're a persecuted minority!

Hello, you own the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judiciary Branches, and a sizeable amount of the military. Your corporations control and own the mass media, and you have almost omnipotent dominance of the talk-radio network.

Please let me know WHEN you've been oppressed. If you're feeling under the heat, it's because your policies are failing, and people are all over the world are rebelling to them.

Especially for all the women on campus. Now, they'll know exactly who to avoid. No more spending time with a guy they thought might be interesting only to find out he detests women, minorities, gays, and just about everyone on the planet except his equally pathetic buddies.
Of course they could be a few females in this "coming out" group. But, I predict mostly very unappealing white males.

49. Well, REALLY.

Look, I've got NOTHING AGAINST conservatives. Some of my best friends are conservatives, it's just that they're so emotional and rabid and forever ramming their ideology down our throats!

What they believe in the privacy of their own heads is possibly their own business but it becomes quite different when CHILDREN are involved.

Let's get ome laws written up to stop this sort of thing. The destabilising effect of conservatism on social norms is, as I think we all know, a threat to the notion of civilised behaviours like ordinary politeness, fiscal accountability, standing by your word and accepting personal responsibility. I think we all know that conservatism fragments societies and makes them useless. Their sustained attack on social values is hardly in question. Their social engineering progammes are destined to failure as they know only too well, the conservative agenda is reactionary and borne of a generation of malcontents and loons.

And what are the children supposed to make of all this? Hm?

Are there going to be conservatives publically announcing their beliefs by draping their offensive propaganda around the campus? In front of ORDINARY PEOPLE who are simply going about their own business?

Really, I think some of these people need some lessons in good manners and GOOD TASTE.

51. does anyone else find this absurd BECAUSE.....
well, INDIANA is a red state isn't? Primarily "conservative." Why would one need to be "outed" as a conservative in a mostly conservative area?

Makes no sense.... but then these neocons usually don't.

61. Oh, cry me a frigging river!
Poor put-upon persecuted little babies! Sometimes their professors make them listen to actual FACTS and REASON, so they're oppressed and persecuted for holding idiotic opinions based on their simplistic lack of reasoning skills.

Can we make them wear some kind of visible badge of their Conservo-Robot Pride so that we know who the hell to avoid?

When these closeted conservatives come out, we should treat them as second class citizens and not allow them to get married and condemn them to hell.
