Grassley says relief effort may delay Social Security overhaul

WASHINGTON, D.C. Senator Charles Grassley says proposals to revamp Social Security will likely be delayed until next year.

The chairman of Senate Finance Committee says Congress has spent most of its time dealing with the hurricane relief effort and tax cuts. He says making changes during a midterm election year also makes it hard to do any major changes.

President Bush has pushed for overhauling Social Security, including creating voluntary personal accounts. Grassley says he supports the accounts but has not gotten enough agreement from lawmakers for any legislation.

2. Why do they think
they can still shove these personal accounts down our throats. Haven't they got a clue yet.

3. It was going to fail anyway
in my opinion, so this gives them an easy excuse to table the damn thing.
