US troops detain police chief north of Baghdad

TIKRIT, Iraq, Sept. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- US troops detained an Iraqi police chief and dozens of policemen on Wednesday after insurgents attacked a US supply convoy on Tuesday, police said.

"US soldiers detained Brigadier Muhammed Khalaf al-Jubouri,police chief of Dhuluiyah town, north of Baghdad, and about 60 policemen for failing to deal with insurgents," a police source in Tikrit told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The source said US troops have sealed off the town, some 100 kmnorth of Baghdad, and detained some 400 people, including policemen, since insurgents attacked a convoy of trucks carrying military supplies for US troops on Tuesday.

What is going on over there, with British and US troops having conflicts with Iraqi police?

Yo, you're not makin' Big Louie happy. Either control the insurgents or we'll send Connie the Enforcer to take you out.

3. Take this with the incident yesterday with the british and the
idea of staying to finish the job is more like trying to drive a burning car because you paid a fortune for it.

4. WTF gives them the right to arrest sovereign Iraqis in their...
sovereign country?

Maybe the Iraqis could "negotiate" their release like the British allegedly did with those two spies.

5. Do the police have the means and the men to do this?
Otherwise, it's just about as useful as punching a guy's teeth out, then kicking him in the nads for mumbling.

And what sort of cooperation are they expecting from the Iraqis, anyway? They're foreign invaders and occupiers! I wouldn't be terribly cooperative with foreign troops ordering me around, either.

This policy is so stupid it HAS to come from Rumsfeld.

6. Sounds like it is all starting to come apart
I had read nothing but good reports about the Brits and the South until now. It also said on some blog that they still could not keep the air port road open and the Green Zone was being shelled by the hour. Looks bad if you ask me.

9. Perhaps that is the plan....
I, too, sense the wheels are falling off our military cart, but I can't help but wonder if this has been the plan all along. If the locals gain true power over the situation, our military would be forced to leave because we have worn out our welcome in Iraq.

Here's something I stumbled upon today that makes a lot of sense. It's all coming together in my mind - call me flash.

This war is about provoking the next major war...

(snip)
In the Bizarro World universe we've been thrust into ever since 9/11/01 – when the force of the explosion that brought down the World Trade Center pushed us into an alternate and cruelly inverted reality – lies are truth, war is peace, freedom is slavery, and the function of government (and much of our media) is to keep everyone in almost total ignorance of what is really going on. Because, you see, ignorance is strength.

Incidents such as what happened in Basra are like lightning at midnight: the landscape, formerly covered in murk, is illuminated with shocking suddenness, its outline starkly visible if only for a brilliant moment. We can see, all to clearly, what this war is really about.

It isn't about oil, although that was part of the long-range objective. Iraq's wells are not flowing due to sabotage. Wolfowitz promised that oil revenues would cover the cost of the occupation, yet now the Iraqis must bring in refined oil from outside. It isn't about "weapons of mass destruction": that was a lie. It isn't about "democracy," either – that was yet another lie, unless the sinister theocracy emerging out of the rubble is the closest the Iraqis can come, which seems a bit harsh.

The rush to detect the long hand of Tehran in Basra shows the direction we are headed. Increased fighting along the border with Syria and charges emanating from Washington that Damascus is actively aiding the insurgency make the future all too clear. The Middle East escalator is going full speed ahead, and the portents of a regional war are all around us. This war is about provoking the next major war – with Iran, or perhaps Syria. Whichever comes first.
