Rita could equal $5 gas
And oil executives have orgasms as they watch the weather channel.
------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Remember when gas spiked to $3-plus a gallon after Hurricane Katrina? By this time next week, that could seem like the good old days.

Weather and energy experts say that as bad as Hurricane Katrina hit the nation's supply of gasoline, Hurricane Rita could be worse.

Katrina damage was focused on offshore oil platforms and ports. Now the greater risk is to oil-refinery capacity, especially if Rita slams into Houston, Galveston and Port Arthur, Texas.

"We could be looking at gasoline lines and $4 gas, maybe even $5 gas, if this thing does the worst it could do," said energy analyst Peter Beutel of Cameron Hanover. "This storm is in the wrong place. And it's absolutely at the wrong time," said Beutel.

$5.00? Maybe ... but for sure when Bush invades Iran, $5.00 easily like immediately. And who knows from there? :freak: Peace.

on edit: I should say when Bush bombs Iran, not too sure an invasion after this hurricane would be feasible no matter how bad his cronies want to. Bastards.

10. Excuse Boy wins again
This hereditary nobody uses excuse after excuse to justify his greedy selfishness. In the '00 campaign, the surplus and booming economy were proof that the rich should get a tax cut. When the economy softened, it was the old Reaganite excuse: stimulate the flaccid economy with a tax cut. Even though Mitch Daniels projected a $1 Billion defecit in August of '01, 9-11 was the cause of all budget woes. Excuse after excuse. This guy is the poster dork for shirking.

20. LOL.....
I don't think that each camera needs to be watched continuously, it simply not necessary or fesible like you mentioned. However when a crime does take place, there is a record. So I stand by my statement. And also the the tapes should be rewritten after a given time frame.

Or.....They could outsource the process to India.... ;)

42. Name one that's not
Name a bicycle that's made completely in America.

I can't. None of the major component manufacturers, Shimano, Campagnolo, and FSA, are US-based.

Even American-based companies don't build their cheap bikes here.

If you want to buy a very, very expensive mountain bike, you might be able to swing it, though. But that's not exactly a smart choice for someone who just wants to commute.

Tomorrow is likely to begin a rapid gouge - they (BIG OIL) need a closer confirmation of a Houston-area hit before they can immediately raise to $4+.

At least the 3/8 of a tank I've used in 3 weeks only cost $19 f'ing $$ to re-fill!

27. Reminds me of an argument I sometimes get into...
...where some freeper asshole tells me, "well you support terrorism, too. You buy gas, right?"

That's when I say, "I sure do, but my car gets 30 miles per gallon. If everyone's car was that thrifty with gas, we could tell the Saudis to kiss our asses. But that would mean you don't get to look cool in your big badass truck, so we can't."

18. Increases across the board...because they can
I filled up tonight, prompted by a post that gas in Ontario, Canada had gone from $1/liter to $1.98/liter.

After saying the obligatory "thanks george" curse and heading inside to pay, I jokingly said to the guy at the counter, "So, how much is gas going to be in the morning?" Another clerk said, "why, is it supposed to go up?" I told them about the Ontario post and the first one said, "that's funny; we get all our gas from Canada, so nothing happening in the gulf will affect us."

We know about the "bigger picture"/futures-speculation/supply&demand thing, but it's infuriating how three stations within a few hundred feet of each other -- one selling 100% Canadian gas (Qwik Trip), one selling (I assume) Venezuelan gas (Citgo) and the other selling gas from who knows where (Mobil) -- are all selling it at $2.67/gal (outside of Madison, WI), and that we know the prices will move up in lockstep, regardless of source, cost-of-goods, overhead or any other "real" factor that most other businesses have to deal with.

Oh, well...just had to vent.

Good luck in the coming days.

We could have already had an alternative fuel, and infrastructure laid down, if we were a society that actually planned their economic development.

22. Thankfully, I live only seven miles from work (I'm in a city).
Added to that, I still have my old '93 5-speed manual VW...it is paid off, what more can I say? It gets 28 MPG city. The thing just won't quit, and I will not get a new car until it does (and to that end, the old thing only has 56,000 miles on it).

I fill my tank every month or thereabouts. I accidentally mentioned that once, and I will say that it really ticked off my co-workers. Most of them drive in from the far suburbs (30+ miles) in SUVs. They are dying under these prices. I can only imagine what $5 will do. For the record, I am not an "I told you so," sort of person. So I just stay quiet and am grateful for the fact that my budget can handle gas (for now).

23. Fucking oil companies! More gouging!
I agree with those that are trying to fight the gouging by the oil companies. According to a recent study, oil prices would have had to hit 90 dollars a barrel to actually equal 3 dollars a gallon.

WHY doesn't any of the MSM TELL Americans about EXXON's RECORD 90 BILLION dollar profit for just LAST QUARTER??? Oh yeah, I forgot, the Mainstream media is a bunch of bloated, overpaid, insipid hacks who own oil stock AND make enough not to have to worry about gas.

would mean $70.00 to get 14 gallons, which is what my tanks holds.

I can't afford $70 weekly. I drive a Nissan Pathfinder (sorry folks, it's a necessity, I'm a drummer/percussionist, and I need it to transport drums and equipment), and it's killing me.

I'm probably going to buy a long sedan style smaller car.
