Bush honors mothers of military dead

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - President Bush paid tribute to the nation's Gold Star mothers on Wednesday, honoring the deaths of their sons and daughters in the military as activists began gathering for an Iraq anti-war protest on Saturday.

Bush proclaimed Sunday as Gold Star Mother's Day and instructed that the U.S. flag be flown over government buildings. He also urged Americans to display the flag as well.

"On Gold Star Mother's Day, we recognize and pray for the devoted and patriotic mothers of these men and women in uniform who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our liberty," the president said in his proclamation.

Separately, anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan arrived in Washington after a three-week cross-country bus tour that began near Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas. Sheehan, whose 24-year-old son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, was killed last year in Iraq, is co-founder of Gold Star Families for Peace.

their children get only one shot, since there are so many of those poor mothers whose children's lives have been squandered by this dry drunk?

5. bush will stop at nothing to get his poll numbers up.....
this is the most blatant attempt to date. I have nothing but disdain for this man and his use of the grieving mothers to bolster his ratings and those of his party. You can't get much lower than this.

8. He realizes now... if he had just met with Cindy
during the first week or so before she hit the MM, none of that would have been happening...

I heard Cindy say that in a way she is glad the president wont meet with her, because the whole movement would never have happened

11. Notice How He Uses the Word "Patriotic?"
"On Gold Star Mother's Day, we recognize and pray for the devoted and PATRIOTIC mothers of these men and women in uniform who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our liberty," the president said in his proclamation.

Guess that means all Gold Star Mothers EXCEPT Cindy Sheehan because KKKarl says she isn't patriotic!

Bush is the scum of the Earth.

20. Probably the reason the White House accepted her letter
...anything else would have been a slap in the face to a GOLD STAR MOTHER.... http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0539,fergusonwebd,68129,2.html

...Sheehan hasn’t given up on her crusade to make Bush answer that question. After the press conference, she and the other members of the tour marched over to the front gate of the White House, where they attempted to deliver a letter to Bush demanding that he answer this question: “What noble cause our loved ones are fighting and dying for?”

“My name is Cindy Sheehan, and I have a letter to deliver to the president,” she told the guards.

“Karl Rove may call me a clown, but there’s a lot of people who agree with what I say,” she told the news crews pressing around her.

The guards wouldn’t let her past the gates, of course, but a White House suit took the missive and walked away with it.
