Supreme Court's Ginsburg Says At New York Lecture 'Any Woman Will Not Do'
POSTED: 9:37 am EDT September 22, 2005

NEW YORK -- Ruth Bader Ginsburg told an audience Wednesday that she doesn't like the idea of being the only female justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.

But in choosing to fill one of the two open positions on the court, "any woman will not do," she said.

There are "some women who might be appointed who would not advance human rights or women's rights," Ginsburg told those gathered at the New York City Bar Association. <snip>

"I have a list of highly qualified women, but the president has not consulted me," Ginsburg said during a brief interview Wednesday night. <snip>

1. But I guess any man will.
Right now I think any woman will do.

3.  Just remember Phyllis Schlafley has a law degree
(if she's still alive) and if there's one woman I never could stand from the 70s period, it was Phyllis talking against the feminists

4. A lot of GOP women get into kinky submission
The ultimate mix of politics and sex, with a touch of masochism thrown in. Wonder if Phyllis also supplies whips.

6. I don't know (re whips). But she is sick as they come, IMHO.
She was the perfect tight-lipped little housewife who used her law degree to fight other women. I just HATED her. Oh, and I found out she's still alive.

5. That old prune doesn't have much of a chance.
Maybe a little scarier might be Ann Coulter, who also has a law degree, but apparently all her fellating of the right wing won't get her that job either. Really there isn't much to worry about.

Incidentally, since most men in that position are horribly scary anyway, even a scary woman having to fight to get her voice heard may not be that bad.

10. The reactionary bitch Schafley is still alive.
So is Anita Bryant, maybe he'll pick her. Her opinions on gay marriage and gay rights are already known.

13. Phyllis Schlafley ???

Phyllis Schlafley ??? HER!!?? Schlafley has abused every damn legal corporate purpose on the map. By that I mean Schlafley has made a living off "non-profit" foundations and organizations, i.e., tax-dodging her way through life since the mid-1970s. Laundering her money through her various so-called "non-profit" corporations. Schlafley does not "walk" her own talk. Schlafley is formally educated enough to abuse laws, to take advantage of ignorant people, to divide and cause in-fighting amongst groups of people.

Hell, Schlafley is a hypocrite that delights in hypocrisy!

In short, Phyllis Schlafley is one twisted lowlife! Were she ever nominated by George Walker Bush for SCOTUS, the Democrats would have a field day on exposing her for what she is . . . and in front of C-Span cameras and microphones!

8. When the good judge says that the President should appoint ..
.. a fine jurist, I'm inclined to read between the lines.

The surprising unwillingness of many Democratics to oppose an extremist like Roberts is, of course, bitterly disappointing.

But I think Ginsburg is appropriately suggesting that our response to the next nominee should be more nuanced than gushing (for example) "O I'm so glad he's suggesting a woman."

11. bush has not even consulted Ginsburg.
That just about says it all, doesn't it? Has he consulted the other SCJ's? If so, which ones?

Justice Ginsburg holds one of the most powerful positions in America, yet bush doesn't even consult her regarding someone she may well end up working with for many years. What a wretched little man he is.
