Schwarzenegger starts campaign with effort to woo Hispanics
Schwarzenegger starts campaign with effort to woo Hispanics
By TOM CHORNEAU, Associated Press Writer

Friday, September 23, 2005

(09-23) 00:05 PDT Sacramento, Calif. (AP) --

Arnold Schwarzenegger's rise from immigrant to Hollywood superstar won him the hearts of California's big Hispanic population two years ago, and their votes helped elect him governor.

But after stumbling over border issues, rejecting legislation that would benefit immigrants and picking an election fight with public employee unions, Schwarzenegger finds himself very unpopular with this critically important group and looking to improve his image.

Moving to shore up his standing among the state's 12 million Hispanics — about a third of the population — Schwarzenegger travels Friday for his first official visit to the capital of Baja California for meetings with Mexican leaders.

His political campaign plans to spend more than $1 million in the coming weeks for ads on Spanish language television to promote his ballot measures on the upcoming Nov. 8 election.

2. Does he think they have short term memory loss--
or perhaps they're just stupid?

Is he drinking with the boy king?

Seriously, the guy has said (and done) some nasty things about this culture. They aren't going to forget it all that easily. He totally endorsed the vigilantes at the border. :wtf:

He's high...

12. Unfortunately that does work for them a lot of times. Pay the key people
lots of $$$$$ and they can get their support. Let's hope the Hispanic people are smarter than this.

9. What a loser
As a Californian who did NOT vote for him, I think it's hilarious to see what a state of denial he's in as he plummets into irrelevance. Remember when they were talking about changing national laws so HE could become preznit? Yeah, right.

18. and the Rolling Stones ( he scaped their ticket for $10,000)
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 03:30 AM by Barkley
When Stones lead singer Mick Jagger welcomed the governor, he was lustily booed, and even Jagger mocked Schwarzenegger noting "As a matter of fact, he was seen out in front of Fenway Park tonight raising funds by scalping tickets and tee-shirts."

20. LOL!
I wouldn't put it past him, considering he gave up his lucrative deal with the fitness magazines, after everyone criticized him over it.

Guess he's got to make it up somewhere. He tried to (jokingly) blame it on Maria, with some comment about diamonds for her. Just pathetic.

be KallyFornia. And he does know some Spanish ("Hasta la vista, Baby!")

14. How's he going to explain away his support of racist Border Vigilantes?
I guess he's just hoping it will be like last election where got the celebrity kid gloves treatment and no one asked him anything.

16. He already explained that away as a 'language problem'
on his part. He apparently used the wrong words, because he is after all an immigrant, and doesn't understand big complex words sometimes, or so he said.

:eyes:

He's so full of sh**, his eyes are brown.

19. I thought English was the 'Official Language" of California?
California approved Prop. 63 in 1986, which called for the preservation of English as ... According to US English, if English were the official language.

A lot of good that proposition did - huh?

17. Pete Wilson was Arnold's Campaign manager!
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 03:32 AM by Barkley
He couldn't find ANYONE else to but Pete Wilson (of 'they keep coming'/ Prop 187 fame) as a campaign manager?!?!?!?!

I for the life of me, do not understand how ANY Hispanic could vote for Arnold.
