Lautenberg criticizes Rove's North Dakota trip

By MARY CLARE JALONICK
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON -- A senator from New Jersey is criticizing White House adviser Karl Rove for planning to attend a North Dakota fundraiser the same day Hurricane Rita is expected to hit Texas.

Democrat Frank Lautenberg sent a letter to President Bush Friday saying "it would be expected that Mr. Rove would be at his post '24/7' during this crisis."

Rove is scheduled to attend a Fargo fundraiser for the North Dakota Republican Party on Saturday. He also is scheduled to speak with Gov. John Hoeven, who is considering a challenge to Democratic Sen. Kent Conrad.

...

"There will be plenty of time for fundraising," Lautenberg said in the letter to Bush. "But for now, putting lives back together and rebuilding communities must take priority over building political war chests."

3. Maybe Texas is better off without him.
He has no more background in emergency management than Brownie. And his incompetence is matched by his indifference.

6. I think I need to get a bullhorn and yell into it...
They don't care about us!!!!

Not only does moron* and his room full of dopes not care about black people, he also doesn't give a shit about the poor, the lower middle class and the middle class.

Unless you make 6 figures a year, they don't want to hear from you or do anything to help you.

Why is everyone so fucking surprised when one or all of this fucking jerks are not doing their jobs??? They never do their jobs. They are always fund raising. It's always about the next election. It's always about putting on the best face. It's always about spinning it to save their asses.

Folks, when we finally confront this bullshit style of gov't and as a nation and wake the fuck up and realize that they don't give a flying fuck about us, it will be then and only then, that we will defeat them.

We have to shake off this pollyanna way of thinking about these fuckers and confront the issue for what they really are: lazy, thieving, power hungry, lying bastards. Who, combined, have not an ounce of integrity, not a bit of honestly and will screw us for the last dime we have.

colossal racist failure*.

9. Senator questions Rove's fundraising trip as hurricane nears
By Eunice Moscoso
WASHINGTON BUREAU
Saturday, September 24, 2005

<snip> Rove, Bush's closest political adviser, is to speak to the North Dakota Republican Party and be featured as a special guest at a fundraising dinner on Saturday, the day Hurricane Rita is expected to make landfall. The hurricane caused flooding Friday in New Orleans, which was devastated by Katrina just weeks ago.

Citing White House aides, the Washington Post reported last week that Rove, as deputy chief of staff, is helping to lead the Katrina recovery efforts. The White House has not made any official announcement.

"I respectfully urge you to remind Mr. Rove of his responsibilities as the coordinator of relief and recovery efforts, and direct him to keep his attention focused on this critical job," Lautenberg wrote. "There will be plenty of time for fundraising, but for now, putting lives back together and rebuilding communities must take priority over building political war chests."

The White House said that the federal government is marshalling its resources to help state and local officials prepare for Rita and that Rove is not in charge of hurricane preparation and emergency response. <snip>

10. Yes. Good for Senator Lautenberg.
I'd like to see crafty Karl grilled by Frank Lautenberg face-to-face in a Seante hearing about his fundraising sorties while American citizens suffered under the blows from two nearly consecutive hurricanes.

Go Frank.

12. I am damn proud of both my NJ Senators....
Democrats around the country could only dream of having the backbone that Senator Lautenberg and Corzine display. NJ is back to being true blue.

15. Very glad to have Sen.Lautenberg back
Though I'm still worried about what will happen to Corzine's vacated Senate seat in 2006.

11. Well, the WH is right...Rove is only responsible for handing out the cash
and contracts afterwards. He could give a shit who dies beforehand. In fact, the more dead the better...the less people he has to give out checks to, the more they get to keep for themselves.

14. "Rove is not in charge of hurricane preparation and emergency response"
Right, but the reconstruction is not hurricane preparation or emergency response! A classic non-denial denial!
