Northern Peru earthquake magnitude 7.5

A major earthquake occurred at 01:55:34 (UTC) on Monday, September 26, 2005. The magnitude 7.5 event has been located in NORTHERN PERU. The hypocentral depth was estimated to be 85 km (53 miles). (This event has been reviewed by a seismologist.)

5. Major quake 7.5 rocks northern Peru

A major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 rocked northern Peru Sunday night, killing at least four people, authorities said.

According to civil defense officials, the fatalities occurred in the city of Lamas.

The quake struck an area about 445 miles (715 km) north of the Peruvian capital Lima about 8:56 p.m. (9:56 p.m. EDT), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter was roughly 53 miles (85 km) below the surface.


Man this makes me nervous, With Vancouver island sliding towards Japan and the SoCal swarms....:scared:

7. We had a very small quake here in Maine yesterday
Near the border with New Brunswick. Very rare around here.

I think Mother Earth is pissed at something.

10. Peru had a strong one almost exactly 39 years ago.
The headlines on the day I was born were about an earthquake down there.

Hope the death toll is minimal in this one.
