Blair Out of Step as Voters Swing Behind Iraq Withdrawal
Blair out of step as voters swing behind Iraq withdrawal

Monday September 26, 2005
The Guardian

Tony Blair is at now at odds with the public over keeping troops in Iraq according to a Guardian/ICM poll published today which shows that voters want Britain to set a timetable for pulling troops out of the country despite the worsening security situation.

The poll also shows rapidly rising dissatisfaction with Mr Blair's leadership. Only 41% of voters are persuaded by the prime minister's argument that troops have a duty to remain in the country until things improve. By contrast, a majority of voters, 51%, want the government to set out plans to withdraw troops from Iraq regardless of the situation in the country.

But the poll, taken after last week's attack on British troops in Basra, shows that a clear majority, 64%, believe the situation in the country is worsening despite the presence of British forces. Just 12% now share Mr Blair's belief that British troops are actually helping to improve the security situation.

Support for Britain's presence in Iraq appears to be dropping in the wake of repeated attacks on coalition forces and the growing prospect of civil war in the country. At the start of this year ICM found 38% of voters believed the war against Iraq was justified, with 47% arguing that it was not.

Galloway mentioned a much higher number when it came to the people who marched in England as well. Did they learn from WG on how to control their image with lies as well ??

2. Labor Party could..
Throw him out if they really wanted to represent their constituents properly just like the Conservatives did to Thatcher, that is an possible option in parlimentry democracies. They could of done that before the last election but they were more concerned with winning than any anti-Iraqi movement.

3. Wait until they hear about and factor in his 180° turn on global warming.
His numbers will be on par with the POS we have over here. Fitting because they probably share the same brain.

Brits think Iraq getting worse: poll (Blair approval down 8 points - 39%)

Brits think Iraq getting worse: poll

A RECORD 64 per cent of British respondents told a poll published in the Guardian that they think the situation was worsening in Iraq despite the presence there of British soldiers.

Only 12 per cent of the 1009 people questioned said the troops' presence was helping to improve the situation in Iraq, and 51 per cent said Tony Blair's government should set a date for the withdrawal of British soldiers from Basra, whatever security problems remained in the country.

More generally, only 39 per cent were satisfied with Blair's work as Prime Minister compared with 47 per cent the previous month, a drop that will concern the Labour party leader who is in the south coast resort of Brighton for the party's annual conference.

5. Right but the Labour MPs love him. They suck and so does the "Third Way"
What has the "Third Way" given us ... a British Labour PM who plays a critical role in cheerleading for the Iraw war, which is the pipe dream of a conservative American President.

They won't get rid of him until he's ready to take his seat on the Carlyle Group Board.

Labour shoud fall, be marginalized, be replaced by a new party.
