Bomb Hits Oil Ministry in Baghdad
A suicide car bomber has killed at least six people and wounded 13 outside the oil ministry in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, police sources say.

The bomber rammed a private bus apparently carrying police officers as people were turning up for work at the complex housing the ministry,

The main police academy and irrigation ministry are also located in the area.

...snip...

Those killed were all policemen while the wounded were mostly civilian government employees, police Lt Col Fuad Asaad was quoted as saying by the Associated Press news agency.

Oil commerce is the top priority. Our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq are also getting hit hard. At www.icasualties.org

How many days until W is out of office?

Note the Iraqi women saying their rights are slipping away at www.icasualties.org

4. Iraqi women's rights deserve a thread of their own
though it will probably sink like a stone. Some excerpts from your link:

"Women cannot walk freely out in the street," said activist Ban Jamil, who directs the Rasafa Branch of Assyrian Women Union, a local non-governmental organisation in Baghdad.

"Women face lack of respect when they walk uncovered," said Jamil, a Christian, who said women are insulted if they show too much skin or walk in public without wearing the Islamic veil, or hijab, to cover their hair.

She blamed "imported extremist doctrines, which were never experienced in the past" for the new restrictions.

The tide of Islamisation has risen in Iraq as fundamentalist Shiite parties have come to power following the ouster of former dictator
Saddam Hussein.

6. They used them cynically to justify war
now they fall silent when they can't get any propaganda benefits from them. Disgusting.

7. After Rita ...
I guess the meme about Rita being "not like Katrina" meant that world oil prices couldn't be raised enough this week. So let's bomb the Oil Ministry, too.

10. Oh this just gets better every day
The Oil Ministry building was the first one protected when the troops went into Baghdad 2 years ago. The national museum and art collections were left unguarded and subsequently looted. The munitions depots were not guarded and also looted of several tons of explosives, but the oil ministry was guarded. Do we remember that, I do. I wonder if the stuff to make the car bomb was some of that taken from the munitions depot that they did not guard? I guess now that they have the oil fields and all of the oil ministry information, who needs the building anymore?
