McCain backs bill against use of torture
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/09/26/MNGK4EU1811.DTL

Sen. John McCain, decrying new reports of Iraqi prisoner abuse by U.S. soldiers, backed a bill Sunday to force the U.S. military to live up to its international obligations under the Geneva Convention and not torture detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Arizona Republican was responding to fresh allegations from Army Capt. Ian Fishback and two sergeants who served with the 82nd Airborne Division. Their description of routine harsh treatment of Iraqi captives parallels the abuse caught in photographs at the Abu Ghraib prison and was contained in a Human Rights Watch report issued by the advocacy group on Friday.

"We've got to have it stopped. It is hurting America's image abroad," McCain said on ABC's "This Week" program.

2. It's hurting our image abroad? Is that the only reason this matters?
gee, how about it's unethical, cruel, and inhuman to torture people, John? Isn't that important too?

I'm glad to hear him support this, but as always, I question his motives.

Shut up John...you made your bed with the filthiest of all, now lie in it with them, you are NO better than they are.
YOU of all people had a chance to make a difference in your vote for Gonzo, yet you chose the path of least resistance and voted FOR TORTURE.
Nobody gives a flying fuck what you have to say anymore "flip-flop McCain".

Best be about your self-appointed tasks.

Stop wasting our time with this carefully stage-managed image of "indignation" and "morality".

13. I thought we already had laws against torture
Along with the constitution, our nation's treaty obligations are the supreme law of the land. Or at least they're supposed to be. If our military doesn't respect, honor or follow our obligations under the Geneva Conventions, why does McCain think they'll suddenly grow a conscience if he and his fellow political whores cluck their tongues and stroke their fingers saying "Shame, shame"?

Appalling.

16. So what is the bill going to do? They'll just outsource it even more.
We'll have mysterious planes flying all over the place. Anything to keep it going - the death and pain and destruction that these lizards feed on. That's is Bushco's "rendition" of torture.

18. I thought the Geneva Convention,
which WE signed, took care of this.

I thought, being the CIVILIZED country we claim to be, we wouldn't sink so low as to torture.

22. Is he backing off on the idea of an amendment to the DoD budget bill?
I can't quite tell from the article, but it sure sounds that way. He needs to attach it to the DoD bill, damn it!!! Bush threatens to veto if it's amended and THAT'S what I want to see!!! I want to see Bush justifying his first ever veto because the amendment calls for the end of torture and following the Geneva Convention. I want to see the little Idiot & Thief squirm his way around that one.

26. There is no need for this bill. This is an attempt to pretend no law
existed to make them comply with the Geneva Convention. It's another GOP "How could we have known" moment. McCain's a total whore for the GOP and the Neocons.

A law already exist against torture - a US federal law - in addition to the GC.

This is bullshit by McCain.
