" To deceive Congress and occupy the country of Iraq"-- Maurice Hinchey (D
RAW STORY

New York congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) delivered a fiery critique of the Bush Administration's drive to war in Iraq, labeling the push part of a "conspiracy" to deceive Congress and occupy the country.

The speech, made Sept. 19 outside the District Courthouse in Binghamton, New York before the federal trial of the St. Patrick’s Four, was transcribed by RAW STORY's Jennifer Van Bergen.

Speaking of the four protesters who spilled their own blood at a military recruiting center, Hinchey said "what they were protesting was the conspiracy of the Administration of George W. Bush to bring about an attack and then an occupation of the country of Iraq, and as a result making the world a much more dangerous and difficult place than it was prior to those actions."

Being first is always the toughest. Now, will the rest of the Deocrats start using the "D" word?

We really need to support Maurice on his courage to speak truth to power. I'm sending him a thank you note.

9. Bingo!
This quote - "the conspiracy of the Administration of George W. Bush to bring about an attack and then an occupation of the country of Iraq" tells what all the needless death in Iraq has REALLY been about. Glad to see some of our elected officials ready to confront the truth, no matter how horrible it is.

Hinchey (D-NY) fiery speech on Bush conspiracy to attack Iraq-Raw Story
Sorry if it's a dupe...

Democratic congressman says conspiracy trial ironic; Sees Bush conspiracy to attack and occupy Iraq

Rawstory-Sep26

New York congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) delivered a fiery critique of the Bush Administration's drive to war in Iraq, labeling the push part of a "conspiracy" to deceive Congress and occupy the country.

The speech, made Sept. 19 outside the District Courthouse in Binghamton, New York before the federal trial of the St. Patrick’s Four, was transcribed by RAW STORY's Jennifer Van Bergen.

Bush to bring about an attack and then an occupation of the country of Iraq, and as a result making the world a much more dangerous and difficult place than it was prior to those actions."

"It is that conspiracy," he added, "that conspiracy which has now been documented by among other things official British documents called the Downing Street Memo which are communications between the highest ranking officials of the British government – the head of the British Intelligence, the foreign officer, the prime minister himself."

what they wanted. PNAC et Bush WH were up front with what was going on. They just used fear to cloud the issue and get what they wanted. And used that fear to get the intelligence they wanted to see.

They should be held up for the faulty intelligence & cherry picking. For the horrid war planning. For their delusional self confidence.

The only reason why the Brits could make 'that they wanted intelligence to fit the need' - was because Brits had been dealing with terrorism for a generation and didn't become as paranoid as the WH, CIA, AMericans, Senate, Congress, etc. So they could actually tell what was going on. Canadian security services too saw through.

The political arm of the WH - being political and not emotionally bound by the same things normal humans cringe & get scared at - knew how to take advantage of those huge American fears.

The "conspiracy" is really more about a bunch of souped up ex-trostkyistes desperate for control over a world in which nobody should have any control over.

This implies that if a new bunch of neocons get power - that they wouldn't try for perpetual wars. And that isn't true. It is who neocons are.
IMHO

13. Well done, Hinchey.
http://www.house.gov/hinchey/

Wants Plame investigation, too.

http://www.house.gov/apps/list/press/ny22_hinchey/morenews/091505fitzgeraldletter.html

Hinchey Leads Broad Congressional Coalition Calling For Expansion of Plame Name Leak Investigation

Forty-One Members Of Congress Ask Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald To Examine Bush Administration's False Uranium Claims That Led To Disclosure Of CIA Operative's Identity To Determine If Additional Federal Laws Were Broken

Washington, D.C. - Troubled by what they see as violations of federal law that prohibit making false and fraudulent statements to Congress, Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) and 40 of his House colleagues today sent a letter to U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald asking that he expand his investigation of who in the Bush Administration revealed to the news media that Valerie Plame, the wife of Ambassador Joseph Wilson, was a covert agent for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Hinchey and his colleagues urged Fitzgerald, who was designated as special prosecutor for the case, to examine the causes behind the exposure of Plame's identity -- specifically, the Bush Administration's false and fraudulent claims in January 2003 that Iraq had sought uranium for a nuclear weapon, which the Administration used as one of the key grounds to justify the invasion of Iraq.

"In order to fully investigate the disclosure of an undercover CIA agent's identity, it is clear that you should fully investigate the reasons for that disclosure," Hinchey and his colleagues wrote to Fitzgerald. "As we outline below, we believe that members of the Administration may have violated laws governing communications with Congress with respect to assertions about Iraq’s nuclear capabilities. Ambassador Wilson’s efforts to publicly contradict these assertions seem to be the reason for the uncovering of Mrs. Wilson’s identity. It is very likely that you would encounter these assertions during the course of your investigation, and thus their legality should be the subject of your investigation."

Only the majority party in Congress can institute impeachment proceedings. That is why we have to try to take Congress in 2006.

18. Democratic congressman says conspiracy trial ironic
Sees Bush conspiracy to attack and occupy Iraq

from Raw Story.

Another Congressman has joined Conyers is calling Bush a conspirator

"New York congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) delivered a fiery critique of the Bush Administration's drive to war in Iraq, labeling the push part of a "conspiracy" to deceive Congress and occupy the country"

-snip-

Speaking of the four protesters who spilled their own blood at a military recruiting center, Hinchey said "what they were protesting was the conspiracy of the Administration of George W. Bush to bring about an attack and then an occupation of the country of Iraq, and as a result making the world a much more dangerous and difficult place than it was prior to those actions."

"It is that conspiracy," he added, "that conspiracy which has now been documented by among other things official British documents called the Downing Street Memo which are communications between the highest ranking officials of the British government – the head of the British Intelligence, the foreign officer, the prime minister himself."

Hinchley's remarks break ranks with most Democrats in Congress, who have been critical of the leadup and operations surrounding the Iraq war, but who have been loath to deliver stinging perorations. The New York Democrat said he saw the trial as somewhat Orwellian -- a move towards curtailing speech.

Why is this so damn hard for them when it's increasingly clear that this is the true majority opinion?

21. Hinchey's my congressman!
he's great! And he's right about that trial. It was a republican DA who refused to accept the first jury trial's outcome and tried to push it further. Let's hope he's voted out in November, he's a real sleazy typical republican operator.

is as usual on the money here.

He has been consistent in his criticism of the war and the criminals in the White House as well as his critiques of the MSM in their appalling (lack of) coverage of the crimes of the Bush/Cheney junta

voted for Bush' iraq war authority because they were supposedly deceived. If thats true they are incompetent. Even the people out here in the cheap seats knew the rationale was bs from the start.
