Warner opens fire on Kilgore
Governor suggests Republican would be imprudent on budget

Gov. Mark R. Warner is finally unloading on Jerry W. Kilgore, saying the Republican candidate for governor threatens to "turn back the clock" with pricey programs that could again bust the Virginia budget.

Warner, who has generally ducked criticizing Kilgore, attacks the former attorney general in a fundraising letter for Lt. Gov. Timothy M. Kaine that depicts the fellow Democrat as a fiscally prudent centrist.

Though Kilgore dismissed the Warner letter as political boilerplate, the missive represents a ratcheting-up of the popular governor's role in a campaign viewed as a referendum on him and his policies.

Why hasn't anyone played up the story about Kilgore trying to ban Cinderella from school libraries because it deals with "Witchcraft"!
