Chinese commission new class of warships
Associated Press

SHANGHAI, China - China's navy has commissioned the first in a new class of domestically designed and built warships, official media reported Tuesday.

The missile frigate Wenzhou, named after a port city in eastern China, entered service Monday at a ceremony attended by East China Fleet commander Zhao Guojun, according to a brief report on the official Wenzhou Newsnet.

The report gave no other details about the ship, but Western military experts have described it as the first in the 054 Ma'anshan class, representing China's most advanced missile frigates.

Along with superior electronics, anti-submarine capabilities and air defenses, the ships boast sloped, covered sides and a special exterior paint intended to make it more difficult to spot by radar, according to the reports.

4. Notice
How the Right Wing media keep trumpeting the threat from China? I guess it's almost time to cheerlead a new war for BushCo. Haven't we learned? War is NOT the answer!

5. hah...they wish
The U.S. can't go to war with China.

There's certain countries the USA can't even win a regular, conventional military conflict with. China is one of them. Russia is another.

It can't even beat a 20,000 insurgency, and to win a conflict, you need to conquer a land and pacify resistance. It can't even do that, what makes anyone think that they could take on the 2 million strong Chinese Army, complete with all their weapons and 200 nuclear missiles?

6. Exactly
why do you think we didn't go after China during the Korean war or Vietnam? We would have had our asses handed back to us big time. But I wouldn't put anything past these assholes to maintain their grip on power.

8. Ironically
it was China that went after Viet Nam in 1979 (to punish them for invading Cambodia). China got it's ass kicked.

13. actually,
Did NK lose 2 million men, and the chinese about 900,000

While we lost 50,000 or something?

The Vietnam experience teaches us that numbers don't mean victory, but, buddy, it wasn't smooth sailing for the Chinese and NK either.

Still though, at this juncture, China is much stronger, and the U.S. is at a weak, stretched point.

Even the powerful Third Reich lost its dominance by overstretching itself.

14. US forces were driven from the Yalu region back to the Han
by the Chinese. Yeah, I guess that means we won. Just like we won in Vietnam.

9. Probably not the Sunburn
China's highly rated C802 missile, seems to be the weapon of choice for this size class.

12. Wonder how it compares to the US Aegis-class missile frigates?
And will we now sell them to Taiwan to piss off China even more? Taiwan has been wanting to get their hands on Aegis ships but so far we've not sold them any.

Bush will probably use this as an excuse to push for more missile "defense" spending.
