Bone shards that may be from 9/11 found roof
"NEW YORK (Reuters) - Construction workers have found bone fragments that may be remains of people who died in the World Trade Center attacks on the roof of a neighboring skyscraper damaged on September 11, 2001, a city official said on Tuesday

The fragments, handed to the office of the city's chief medical examiner who will establish whether they are human and try to identify them, were found during work to dismantle the Deutsche Bank building.

The 41-story building was struck by falling debris when the Twin Towers collapsed and has been vacant ever since, pending a decision on how to safely demolish it."

3. THey could be finding "remnants" for years....
Not to be morbid, but when the towers came down they spread debris across a wide area of lower Manhattan.

:(

4. There must be a fair number of WTC victims still unaccounted for

simply because there nothing of their bodies to recover. Here's hoping the remains are DNA-friendly.

6. I would hope that...

... the medical examiner does a complete chemical analysis of the bones, ie... what chemicals were the bones exposed to, might be a break in the LIHOP/MIHOP conundrum.

7. Four years
after 9/11 and they can't agree on how to demolish an uninhabitable building? No wonder nothing is being built at the site.

10. OK, so under sufficient force >
e.g., intra-continental aircraft fully laden with fuel, bodies disperse their sad detritus over football-field distances. What am I missing here?

11. NYC will be a "crime scene" for decades...
There will be findings ever time a major building is renovated or demolished, I'm sure.

The wind currents even a few hundred feet above the ground are amazingly strong and consistent. I had an great-uncle who was a custodian at the Empire State Building for decades; he said that they often had to clean-up wheat and corn seeds from the rooftop and the antennas... where did it come from? Nebraska, Iowa, Alberta...

Bone fragments that may be the remains of people killed in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001 have been found by construction workers on the roof of a nearby Deutsche Bank building skyscraper that was also damaged in the attacks.

Reuters reports the bone fragments have been handed over to the chief medical examiner of New York City, who will first establish if they are human and if they are, will attempt to identify them. The Deutsche Bank building was hit by falling debris when the Twin Towers collapsed and has been vacant ever since. It is now being dismantled.

During the past week, the workers found less than 10 small bone fragments. "We don't know yet if they are human. We have to do some further examination to determine that," Ellen Borakove, director of public affairs for the city's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, told Reuters. Such tests will likely take about a week. "If they do turn out to be human, we will have to see if we can extract DNA to see if we can identify them," she said. There were 2,749 people killed in the World Trade Center attacks, but only 292 full bodies have been recovered. In February, authorities halted victim identification, leaving unidentified the remains of nearly half of those killed. Currently, some 9,720 unidentified bone and tissue fragments have been sealed and stored in case developments in technology allow for identification in the future, officials told Reuters
