Rangel's Jibe at President Draws Support From Democrats

WASHINGTON - Responding to statements made last week by Rep. Charles Rangel, the Republican National Committee urged Democratic leaders yesterday to denounce the New York congressman's comparison of President Bush to the late Theophilus "Bull" Connor, the Birmingham, Ala., police commissioner who came to symbolize Southern racism in the 1960s.

The Republican request for repudiation, however, met with expressions of support for Mr. Rangel's statement, particularly from black Democratic leaders in New York. The Reverend Al Sharpton came out in support of Mr. Rangel's analysis, and another member of the city's congressional delegation, Major Owens, a Democrat of Brooklyn, denounced Mr. Bush as "even more diabolical" than Connor.

At a town hall meeting of the Congressional Black Caucus held in Washington last Thursday, Mr. Rangel, a Democrat of Harlem, faulted Mr. Bush for his response to Hurricane Katrina. Lambasting the president for being insensitive to blacks affected by the storm, Mr. Rangel said, to an appreciative audience: "George Bush is our Bull Connor."

...

Yesterday, Mr. Rangel, reached by phone, elaborated on his comments, saying he made the comparison because Mr. Bush, like Connor, had become a rallying point for America's blacks.

1. They're gonna have to move it up to the next level....
Send Coulter and Hannity in to label Sharpton, Hagel, and Owens as unpatriotic traitors who hate America.

Worked well in the months after 9/11.

14. Always worth reminding people
of the "surprise" Hagel victory and his Diebold connection.
Hagel may be a moderate voice. BUT - how did he acquire that voice?

6. True. The only
people you hear discussing civil rights these days are members of the Congressional Black Caucus and other black politicians.

9. We don't expect white Republicans to give a shit
and the MSM is not going to give any coverage to white Libertarians, Greens, etc. So, we expect ALL members of our party to speak out against racism, not just the black members.

21. Because they allways seem to be "missing" or "busy" elsewhere.
when it comes time to fish or cut bait - they have a horrible track record of cuttin out to leave the congressional black caucus dangling in the wind.

GOD BLESS THE CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS!

17. What I recall:
A table was set up with food. After Bush left, it was taken down. This happened in Mississippi.

This may be part of what a German journalist reported. She was horrified by the photo op she saw.

This was on DU, so maybe you can use DU search.

20. All the Internet articles on the food distribution thing
seem to come from the same source, but I have not been able to trace it back to the original German source (if it was, in fact, a German reporter who made the comment). Maybe someone who speaks german could help out on that.

However, Senator Landrieu did remark that the work that was supposedly being done on the levee after the breach was stopped within 24 hours after Junior's appearance at a photo-op:

gBut perhaps the greatest disappointment stands at the breached 17th Street levee. Touring this critical site yesterday with the President, I saw what I believed to be a real and significant effort to get a handle on a major cause of this catastrophe. Flying over this critical spot again this morning, less than 24 hours later, it became apparent that yesterday we witnessed a hastily prepared stage set for a Presidential photo opportunity; and the desperately needed resources we saw were this morning reduced to a single, lonely piece of equipment..."

http://www.fromtheroots.org/story/2005/9/3/19542/97952

So the food distribution story would appear to fit in with the rest of Potemkin Preznit's visit to the area.

15. Oh just give the republican operatives and the media whores 24 hours
and they will be able to trash Jesus Christ himself? About what? Anything!

These people who spin the news are "black hearted and shameless" propaganda artists.

If you doubt me, then check out that nasty bloated windbag, Tim Russert's CRASS and DISGUSTING "dress down" of a distraught man who's friend had just lost his mother?

"Oh oh oh! Mister Kotter!?!" the freepers exclaim. "But ole' Russert and his a**hole supporters were technically right about the DAY in question.

HAVE YOU NO SHAME SIR? I hope MSNBC tanks and will do everything in my little world to help it get flushed out of this media circus. That good man - Ron Regan will still land on his feet.

There's no doubt that the RIGHT WING Republican Noise Machine will suck in Rangel's statements and spit them out with "vicious lies" in the form of their blessed "talking points" by the end of the week ... at the latest!

These evil bastards (PNAC, AEI, RoveCo) take no prisoners!
