I don't know what I'd do if AAR went silent.

Air America Asks For Donations
September 27, 2005
By Katy Bachman

In an unusual move for commercial radio, Air America Radio quietly launched Sept. 21 a loyalty program that includes asking for donations from listeners, a strategy more common to noncommercial stations and political action committees.

According to the network’s Web site, listeners become an “Air America Associate” by making a cash donation to the network.

A spokesperson said the program, modeled after The Nation magazine’s associates program, was developed in response to requests from its listeners “to spread the word about programming.”

Since Air America launched in March 2004, the network has signed 70 affiliates, but has not had an easy time getting a financial foothold, bouncing checks during the initial launch period. Recently, the network had to repay $875,000 to the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club, which helped fund the start-up network.

2. I helped
Just so I don't have to listen to lush bimbo. Think of it as keeping our cause on the air.

8. In addition to
Learning how to read, this is not LBN. This was posted and hashed out days ago in other forums.

13. OOOOOOO! Bitch slapped by the hall monitor....again!
Am I the only one that would like these self elected hall monitors to shut the fuck up?

Some of us don't have the time to read every fucking topic and sit by our computers refreshing our browsers every 30 seconds.

Thank you for the post! I donated because of it. It was LBN according to Media Week, and in my book that's just fine.

This post reflects the redeeming quality of this forum. That a post can actually leads to people donating time and money to causes that us liberals support should be welcomed, not criticized.

Leave it up to the moderators to decide what is LBN.

Donate and vote this up!

7. It's a fund to generate cash so AAR can advertise.
AAR doesn't have the cash yet to promote itself. Hopefully this will change that.

9. I tell my friends to listen, try to buy from their advertisers, if I
don't have need of an advertiser's product I call them and thank them for advertising and will keep them in mind.

12. I actually try to listen to their commercials. Usually, I change...
the channel as soon as a commercial comes on the radio.

14. AAR Advertisers
I'm not sure I want to buy stuff from some of these folks.
E.G., "See Clearly Quackery"

But there are some good ones. OrkinMan is funny. If only they had some different ones.

I hope AAR survives. I may just send some bucks their way this month.

A puff piece is favorable, not critical.

Peace.

16. I don't know what the deal is
Because they are surely not lacking in commercials. It seems they take five-minute commercial breaks every ten minutes.

17. Two ways they could get money from me.
Lets be clear I want them to be successful and am willing to help. I have problem paying money to help someone, anyone, make more money. If they got rid of commercials I would donate. Thats a big risk and would probally crush the network. Alternativly, they could offer stock so that if they start making money with the network they can share it with those who helped them.

Asking for free money so they can make money is rediculous.

18. They already got my "donation"!
When I bought an extra XM radio recently after my Sirius radio was rendered useless by them by their business decision. Hopefully the extra money they got from XM made it worth it.

20. Sirius has become a sore subject for me
First off, I think Move-On should buy AAR , they could raise enough money in a week to cover it all. Moveon could then spread out over the airwaves.

about Sirius:

I thought I was all set to deactivate Sirius the day after they dropped Air America, I went through all the motions ahead of time, switched my accounts to monthly etc. The day after they dropped Air America I phoned to deactivate our 3 tuners and was assurd they would deactivate my account and return my credit, as I was paid in advance. A couple months later I found out they did not deactivate my account - even though the customer service representative noted that I requested they deactivate my account, she said for some unknown reason it was never deactivated.

I asked her about deactivating my account and returning my money as the previous customer service representative said would be done. At first she first replied, you now owe us money! I was angry, got a little rude and after much back and forth she agreed they would send me $44.xx check and deactivate my account. A couple weeks later I got a computer generated phone call telling me about the new channels on my account, later I got 3 different mailings about the changes. I contacted Sirius via email to find out if they did deactivate my account as they said they would, the replay said they would get back to me after they do some research, it has been over two weeks and still no reply from Sirius.

I have complaint forums from the State Attorney Generals Office Bureau of Consumer Protection, they will get things straightened out, it's just a shame people must go through all the grief to get things right. I will never recommend Sirius again. When we left XM to switch Sirius to get all of Air America, XM was very nice about it, even offered to give me a few free mothns to stay.
