DeLay Says Texas Criminal Indictment Is `Political Retribution'
-----------------
Sept. 28 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Representative Tom DeLay, the No. 2 Republican in the House, said the criminal conspiracy indictment handed down by a Texas grand jury is part of a ``coordinated premeditated campaign of political retribution.''

The indictment is ``blatant political partisanship,'' DeLay said today at a news conference in Washington. It is the ``weakest indictment in U.S. history,'' he said.

(snip)

DeLay said that Ronnie Earle, the Travis County district attorney who is leading the investigation, is `a partisan zealot'' and ``is using his office for personal revenge.''

``I have done nothing wrong,'' DeLay said. ``I have done nothing unlawful, unethical.''

4. Were there ONLY Democrats on the Grand Jury that indicted him?
Remember, Ronnie Earle only presented the evidence. The grand jury indicted DeLay.

How many Texans sit on the grand jury? Surely they're not ALL Democrats.

7. partisan...not
blatant political partisanship

Don't know details of this case but Blitzer just said on CNN that this couldn't be partisan as the majority of politicians prosecuted by this district attorney have been Democrats.

Any know more? Good for talking points with Repubs.

The only way you will ever suffer the consequences of your actions is by an outside force imposing accountability because you are a sociopath who will deny any wrongdoing until the day you die.

"Retaliation" means vengeance or payback, justified or not. "Retribution", as you suggest, means:

1. Something justly deserved; recompense.
2. Something given or demanded in repayment, especially punishment.
3. Theology. Punishment or reward distributed in a future life based on performance in this one. (Thanx to dictionary.com)

I'd go with definition number 1--and I hate to say it, but for once... I agree with the Bugman. He deserves this and more!

23. One of the things I've noticed about about DeLay and his ilk, is that
they NEVER accept that they can be wrong, much less guilty, about something. It would have bode DeLay well to have said initially, "Holy crap, they did what???!!!!"

DeLay is a piece of shit, we all know that; I don't want to see him just get a paddling...I want him to go down in flames, taking his 'buddies' with him. I don't feel this way because he's an R, but because he is inhuman, revolting and just downright evil. The more like him that go down, the better the country will be.

Text of DeLay press statement
---------------------
By The Associated Press
---------------------
Text of remarks by House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, on Wednesday, as transcribed by DeLay's office:
---------------------

DELAY: Good morning. Thank you for attending.

(snip)

This act is the product of a coordinated, premeditated campaign of political retribution, the all-too-predictable result of a vengeful investigation led by a partisan fanatic.

(snip)

Mr. Earle, an unabashed partisan zealot with a well-documented history of launching baseless investigations and indictments against his political enemies, has been targeting a political action committee on whose advisory board I once served.

(snip)

Despite his long-standing animosity toward me — and the abusive investigation that animosity has unfortunately rendered — as recently as two weeks ago, Mr. Earle himself publicly admitted I had never been a focus or target of his inquiry.

(snip)

We have a war to win, a region to rebuild, a budget to balance, taxes to cut, a government to reform, and a nation to lead.

(snip)

Thank you very much for this opportunity to speak with you today.

27. Sounds a HELLUVA like Ky. Gov. Ernie Fletcher's recent speech:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=154x727

Key excerpts:

Says, "The buck stops here" and gets applause.

Justifying the illegal hiring practices saying Dems did it but used phone while they used email and got caught.

"I never knowingly violated any laws"...more applause.

Obviously a stacked crowd.

"My conscience is clear..."

"This appears to be a political investigation"

"Greg Stumbo is wasting your tax dollars."

Bloviating about healthcare being more important than the investigation and, I think this was what he said, something about Stumbo should investigate fraud in Medicare.

Asking "what's the best way to spend your Kentucky tax dollars?"

"I cannot allow state government to be consumed by political gotcha...it may not be good politics but I believe, after long nights of prayers...to use the power you invested in me"

39. Delay: "I'm innocent"/DeLay indicted in campaign finance probe
I know there are similar posts on this continuing story, but this is a new updated article with interesting quotes:

DeLay called Earle an “unabashed partisan zealot,” and “fanatic,” and described the charges as “one of the weakest and most baseless indictments in American history.”

Weaker than wasting tax money to decide if Clinton got a BJ??

“I'm still a member of Congress, and I'm going to work hard for the people,” he said. “The Democrats can play these politics of personal destruction all they want to; it’s not having an effect on this conference at all. We will go forward, and we will continue to do great things for the American people.”

When is this idiot up for re-election??

"The Republican leadership in Washington is now spending more time answering questions about ethical misconduct than doing the people's business," Dean said.

Go Howard!
