Bush Sends Top Iraq Commanders to the Hill

By LIZ SIDOTI

WASHINGTON -- President Bush is sending the top U.S. commanders in Iraq
to Capitol Hill to try to convince lawmakers _ and their skeptical
constituents _ that the United States is making progress in the war.

Gen. George Casey, the most senior commander of coalition forces in
Iraq, and Gen. John Abizaid, the commander of U.S. Central Command,
were testifying Thursday before the Senate and House Armed Services
committees alongside Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and Gen.
Richard B. Myers, the outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The back-to-back hearings are part of a White House effort to bolster
slipping public support for the war.

After weeks of being criticized for his hurricane response, Bush also
is trying to put the focus back on issues considered his strengths _
the fight against terrorism and Iraq.

2. Looks like Bu$h* hasn't got the message
that a whole lotta people know Iraq is a disaster, not "his strength."

3. The top retired Generals tried to tell junior he was making
a mistake before the invasion of Iraq ever took place.

If these present Generals want to keep their careers in good standing, they must do what junior bids them to do.

This is Blackmail in the strictest sense.

4. jeezus christ, another p.r. exercise
What Bush doesn't get is that sometimes you actually need to DO something about a problem, not just create illusions. Is he in the White House or just running a cosmetics company?
