US military failed on Katrina communications-admiral

WASHINGTON, Sept 29 (Reuters) - The U.S. military failed to provide adequate emergency communications for Hurricane Katrina response, contributing to days of confusion after the storm devastated Mississippi and Louisiana, the admiral in charge of domestic defense forces said on Thursday.

"The devastation was so complete, so comprehensive ... that we couldn't figure out how bad it was," Vice Adm. Timothy Keating said of the lack of satellite telephones or working cellphones carried by aid troops sent to the U.S. Gulf Coast last month.

"They (telephones) weren't there for Katrina because we just didn't think to put them in there for Katrina," added Keating, chief of the U.S. military's Northern Command, in response to questions from defense reporters.

The federal government, as well as local and state authorities, has been strongly criticized for a slow initial response to the crisis.

5. That is the dumbest statement I've ever read from an "intelligent" person
Since they couldn't "communicate" -- then should it logically follow that the entire communication system was DOWN? And the next logical step is that ALL hand on deck, would be necessary after a massive hurricane hits a major U.S. city.

I'm losing all respect for the current US military officers -- the "old" military would have come in immediately WITH communication and all the equipment they had.

Also could it be that Asscrotch was directing the early efforts -- he of course had New Orleans in his sight as an evil city (too many whores) in 2001. Terrorist weren't the problem it was boobies and New Orleans whores.

So they couldn't communicate and no one on the command level though to do anything about the lack of communication -- or was their rule -- no news is good news??
