US envoy says UN funding should be voluntary
29 September 2005

WASHINGTON: Washington's top envoy to the United Nations suggested today that voluntary contributions rather than assessed payments should be made to the United Nations but the global body immediately rejected the idea.

US Ambassador John Bolton made the suggestion at a hearing by the House of Representatives Committee on International Relations and said a deal reached in New York this month on reforming the United Nations was not enough.

The UN's chief of staff, Mark Malloch Brown, speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of the hearing, immediately rejected the idea of voluntary payments, saying it could "sink" the world body if countries were allowed to pick and choose how much they paid and which programmes they supported. <snip>

2. OK, Bolton, let's make a deal
Let's make the payment of taxes voluntary, for the poorest 85% of the populace only, of course.

3. Well of course it should
considering the fact the US is so far behind in it's payments to UN it's criminal. In fact the US under the new bankrupcty laws would be up shit creek.

8. man this bolton is a rotter
His leash is off and he's pissing on every tree in the park.

Its so tragically embarassing, i am speachless, that an ignorant
fool has been promoted to such a post for which he is so grossly
incompetent. But reading this made me laugh. They're going for it.
They think they've got the whole planet fooled, and they're playing
for a global empire... a ploy, however humourous, will only result in
80 million dead after a nuclear exchange.

I'm glad the world laughs at his irrelevance. Would that more parents
so effectively ignore the ravings of their teenagers.
