Bush administration to examine new measures against Syria
WASHINGTON - President Bush and his top aides are weighing new steps against Syria, according to U.S. officials involved in Middle East policy.

Bush's national security team is due to meet Saturday to review policy toward Syria, the officials said. Options range from tougher economic sanctions to limited military action. One official involved in the deliberations said military action is unlikely for now.

The meeting comes as a United Nations investigator nears completion of a report that's expected to provide evidence that Syrian security agencies were involved in the February assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

The investigator, German prosecutor Detlev Mehlis, is drawing on debriefings from one or more defectors from the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad. The defectors have provided evidence of Syrian government complicity in Hariri's death, according to two U.S. officials.

2. Is there any war that Bush doesn't like?
Where is he going to get the troops to attack Syria? What about Iran? Is Bush going to fight a 3-front war in Iraq, Iran and Syria? As Walter Wolfgang said:

When I was a child living in Germany in the late 1930s, with relatives who died in the concentration camps, things were very frightening. But the policy of the American government today frightens me too. And so does the attitude of the British Government.

20. Let others take note...
Many of us have been criticized by others for comparing Bush with Hitler, and the current political climate with Germany's slide into fascism. Mr Wolfgang, who lived through the Hitler years, and he apparently sees parallels between Nazi Germany and America under Bush. Germans did not go to bed one night and wake up to full fledged fascism the next morning, it took a step by step process for the country to evolve.

We are walking the same dangerous path. In addition to Iran and Syria, I have no doubt that Bush also has Venezuela in the back of his mind, wondering how to portray Hugo Chavez as a threat to democracy and world peace.

Bush is a dangerous, out-of-control sociopath, and needs to be impeached, convicted, and locked in prison, along with the rest of his cabal. We can not afford, in terms of money or lives, any more of his war mongering. Even if he were to resign today, it will take years to restore the damage that started with Reagan, and is continuing under Bush.

Bush administration examines new measures against Syria

WASHINGTON - President Bush and his top aides are weighing new steps against Syria, according to U.S. officials involved in Middle East policy.

Bush's national security team met Saturday to review policy toward Syria, the officials said. Options range from tougher economic sanctions to limited military action. One official involved in the deliberations said military action is unlikely for now.

However, one option under consideration was bombing several villages 30-40 miles inside Syria that some officials believe have been harboring Iraqi insurgents. The officials said the U.S. government has complained to the Syrian government about the matter, but not received satisfactory response.

One other official, however, said that military and other intelligence officers say the intelligence on the insurgents' presence in the villages is "not unambiguous." They said it is not clear whether the insurgents are present as a matter of Syrian government policy, local or tribal hospitality or simply because insurgents have intimidated villagers.

Another full-blown invasion would be the straw that broke the camel's already fragile back. I really don't think the government or the people would stand for it.

14. Screw them! They can't even take care of their
own citizens, their DHS is a joke, and they're still pickin' fights? So when some country decides payback is in order, we'll suffer while they're sitting in their bunkers. Enough already! :grr: :grr:

19. Iraq and Afghanistan are not going well.
So Bush wants a fresh new war. The invasions usually seem to go well at the beginning - he likes that, and so does his base. All he has to do is start a new war every three to six months, and all his troubles are over.
